I work for roehl they are a good starter company.not sure if i will retire here but good company that will hire u with no expeirence. i dont think i would of wanted to go anywhere else to start. they have lots of hometime options. 11 on 3 off. 7 on 7 off 14 on 7 off. 7 on 3 off 7 on 4 off. 30 on 6 off.
I went to wolf driving school in schaumburg. it was 2000 dollars and good training. i will warn you though thanks to our governor and pay to play for CDLs IL is different than other states. if u go with a company that trains you but its in another state that u get it IL wont recognize it so u will have to start from scratch to get your IL CDL. there where drivers in my school going through it becouse they moved to IL and had to fuffill the requirments. so go private school thats the only way. plus if u want to leave a company you owe them nothing so it makes it easier to look for greener pastures. -
Thanks a lot everyone! You guys have helped a ton.

Best advice I would say is go with a real truck driver for a week to see what it is really about.
"Be your own boss" naa,I own my truck paid for and still am not my own boss(also married so...) but good luck me personal I thank all the people that want to drive should just go with a real truck drive for a week or so then decide. But like I said just my opinion -
I would highly recommend you do not go any further in this endeavor! An over the road driver is just that in that you will very seldomely see home! If seeing your wife and kids a handful of times a year is ok with you then proceed.
DO NOT BELIEVE ALL THE HYPE!!! These recruiters are going to offer you all kinds of great hometime packages and different driving schedules but it just isn't so! Fact it that you will be driving a minimum of 6-8 weeks at a time with 3-4 days off. This is pretty much the standard across the board. Do not believe anyone else otherwise, they will be lying to you! Sure there are regional and dedicated routes however these are usually reserved for the experienced drivers that have put in a lot of time and there is usually a long line of guys wanting those positions. Driving local will also be highly unlikely. Don't spend $6000 on school with the thought of driving local. 99% of the time it does not happen. Then you will be forced to drive over the road just to pay off your school and recoop your losses.
This is the number one reason for new drivers quitting very soon after finishing training (if they make it that far)!
With all that being said, even if it were possible to get home all the time you won't be making any money. It really takes putting in long stints to make a buck and establish a good freight path.
Every time you go home it messes up three weeks of pay!
The first week you slow up trying to get you lined up to get home. The second week you are home and don't make any money. The third week is slow going because you are trying to get back into the freight lanes.
I have been doing this for 16 years now and I highly urge you to reconsider! Being an over the road driver entails missing birthdays, holidays, family events, school events/plays, doctor appts. and even funerals! I have been in your shoes and lived the life and I so wish I could turn back the hands of time! Yes I made money but it wasn't even remotely worth it! I missed my son growing up and it also cost me my marriage! All those moments I will never, ever get back! You only get one shot at this and one trip through life!
There are so many, many other ways to make money out there and even hundreds of different technical schools and adult colleges to get degrees in something to better your life. Find something that is going to allow you to live your life like a normal human being. This career is easy to fall for because it is really made out to sound like a dream job. In some ways it can be I won't lie to you there, but it is a lifestyle and one that is not meant for someone with a family.
The trucking industry has a 104% turnover rate for this quarter! The number one reason is drivers quitting because of family and hometime! For some reason unknown, new drivers just can't comprehend what it is like to be away from home for that amount of time and its just not one stint its over and over and over.
Please heed this advice and I will save you lots of time and money! This is money that can be spent on your family and used for their well being.
