Hi guys/gals. . .
Not a hauler so forgive the intrusion into your domain. I'm a full time locksmith and part time car rebuilder/tinkerer who buys a lot from Copart and have utilized the services of several transporters over the years bringing my junk home.
I had been using 1Dispatch to self-broker. I understand the hauler side of their website was RATloads (ready auto transport). I liked it, transporters who brought stuff into me they found on there liked it. . . seemed like a good deal.
A few weeks ago I went to plug a load into 1dispatch and found my account was inaccessible. Emailed a few times, then eventually called support and I'm told that 1D was bought out by CD. . . and CD's rates are astronomical relative to what I was paying at 1D.
Evidently the transporter side rates are equally crap, and the whole concept of tossing an available load out and wait for carriers to call seems about as efficient as feeding a pack of dogs by tossing them a steak and expecting them to divvy it up equally.
So here's a 2 part question. . . first off, are there any *real* alternatives to CD. . like a good old fashioned load board that works like 1Dispatch did. . and if not, how many of you would be willing to sign up for one if it was available?
I'm working with a few smart people I know to make that last bit happen. Just want to make sure I'm not trying to sell refrigerators to eskimos.
Thanks!
Ben
Alternative to Central Dispatch??

1D was not bought out by CD. RAT was bought out by Cox Auto a couple years ago. Cox Auto also owns Manheim Auto Auction. Last June I think it was Cox Auto purchased CD for several billion dollars. So RAT was not bought out by CD.... Rat bought CD in a sense. Cox Auto has their hands in everything, RAT used to be one of the higher paying brokers out there. Now they pay carriers pennies on the dollar. Really kind of sad. There has been a few load boards that POP up occasionally but none seem to last very long. CD is good for back haul and what not. Tell your friends to get to work but.... I hold little hope at this point.

Yeah I kinda wondered why there was no real competition in this market. . . if like by virtue of even mentioning a new load board was gonna get me a visit from some CD thugs or something. . .
Maybe I'll get to find out what happened to Jimmy Hoffa. -
Let me know if you find out who killed Kennedy too.

Cd was a small part of dealer track that Manheim/cox purchased. It wasn't billions for cd. I understand it was somewheres in the 40 million dollar range.
There are a few that have tried to make load boards for the car haulers but it's mostly the marketing that I understand is the difficult part. A lot of transport companies do little to no advertising so locating them is a challenge itself. That's why boards like this will help once something worth while is created. There is little networking in this industry. Network Network Network and when something new comes out spread the word. That will help more than anything in my opinion.brian991219 and lockmedic Thank this. -
It was 4 billion that they paid for dealertrack which is CD

Cd was a very small part of dealer track
-
Well they didn't break it up into pieces they bought the whole shebang for 4B so in turn they paid 4 B for CD and all that goes with dealertrack which I am sure has stuff included that I am not aware of. DT is a big business.

Yes it is huge. It deals with a tremendous amount of different things primarily with the new car industry and financial stuff.

*mind blown*
Yes i also got a customer who was very upset they just randomly shutdown 1d without warning.
I mean, i get youre gonna shut it down and become "ready logistics" and be all ####y about it when people call for any reason whatsoever. But at least warn your past customers youre gonna shut down and redirect them to CD since it's already yours. I wonder how many dealers they lost that just pulled up past transporters and decided to go the private route.brian991219, lockmedic and Ziggy319 Thank this.
