alternator putting out 16 volts

Yes I am raising the RPMs while parked but the volts doesn't go high on the dash or at the alternator. The volts are between 13.8 and 14.2. The volts only move to 15 and 16 while driving.

Good evening all. My 2007 Volvo is putting out 16.1 volts at times and the "light control module is in high voltage mode" indicator comes on. And a message about the fog light comes on as well but the fog lights are unplugged. The alternator is a 3 wire 34si so I cant run a jumper wire. Any suggestions on what to do? I have cleaned all grounds and terminals.

Sounds like you have the battery sense wire and it's not making good contact.
Replace with a new wire from alternator and run it to the battery + at your batteries.

..If it's disconnected or not making good contact the alternator will go "full field" and Max output..... Usually the factory would run it straight to the output terminal as a short jumper and this is incorrect wiring to begin with.

Ok thank you KB3MMX. Would that wire be positioned next to the main hot wire coming from the alternator?
