Hello all!
I ran my own painting business for 7 years then everyting went south on me and after months of trying to find something - Anything - I gave up and decided to give trucking a try. I figured there would always be a need for truckers. I've always admired the big riggs rolling down the road and wanted to try it, so I finally do.
And now, after spending a lot of money to get my CDL I can find now one that hires new drivers. Even Swift and Werner wont talk to me! Then I read a lot on this website - LOTS of negative stuff! Have I entered the wrong field again? And how do I get a flippin job!?!
Any info helps. Thanks.
Am I a Doomed Newbie?

What!? No words of wisdom from y'all?
-
Hi try posting in this thread Questions From New Drivers
-
Come on in.

The time to pay attention to words of wisdom is BEFORE you decide to get your CDL . Now you're just one of the thousands out there in a similar situation -exploited by a CDL school , waiting to be exploited by a bottom feeder carrier .

hi! i am Alex, I am US citizen, russian speaking, i am from Los Angeles,CA. I just started new career in truck driving. Desperetely i was looking for a job around 9 months, (any woman could deliver baby during this time). finally i v got a job and recently come back from my first trip,...extremely tired and unexplainable happy! i was struggling with super 10 transmission in freightliner century, and it was spectacular show! you would cry and louph if you would see! Anyway,...i wanna thank my friends who helped me to get this job, otherwise i had no chance to find any trucking job without references who have relative connections with my boss.
No matter how good you are, your record and your hazmat and tank endorsement, each company ask for experience, at least 1-2 years. So, in this case, i suggest forsively to look for someone who relly able to place you in this field. -
Spanish is quiet helpful language to find a trucking job in Los Angeles, even more important than all endorements on your driver license. So, before you will apply in any trucking company in South California, take a class "spanish as a second language" in the community college and your dream will come true.

You make a very good point . Having connections with people in the company is what will get more people hired . Those with no contacts have the odds against them.

And what is the pay for this "dream job " - $.20 a mile or $8 an hour ? How about layover and detention pay? What are the benefits - holidays, vacation , health insurance ?
