I have 6 months experience now OTR driving, which is not that great. However, I do see ads on craigslist all the time for x amount of money with little experience. I'm sure from following up that most of these don't turn out to be true. I want to be out 3, 4, 5 weeks at a time and in return get 3,4, or 5 days off for home time when I choose. Home every weekend for me doesn't work as I like to do things that involve more than a day or two off. I also have a couple kids that live two hours away from me so it works better to have more time off. I also would like to make 38-45 cents a mile and have decent miles, especially if my work week is 7 days instead of 5. I would like my miles to represent 7 days instead of 5.
The few companies I talked to either paid well(.40 plus) but I couldn't bank home time and had to be home every weekend or I could stay out for more money but not get more than 2 maybe 3 days off and they were set on a schedule. For instance out 15 home for 3. Well if 4th of July fell on my 15, oh well. Other companies told me I could bank time and run as long as I wanted but paid .33 to start.
Am I asking too much for both or do I just need to stick it out until I get more experience to be able to get better jobs?
I probably need to be an O/O but that's silly with 6 months experience to be thinking about that right now.
Any advice on companies or correct path to choose?
Thanks!

Just me personally, I would stay put a minimum of 1 year. If you leave now and go somewhere else and find out you hate it, you'll leave there rather quickly. The next thing you know, you'll have a year under your belt, but with 2 or more companies. That just doesn't look good. That's just my .02 cents worth.

Check with NTB Inc.
Probably get more hometime with them.
Let me say this, being gone 4 or 5 weeks then a few days off with the children, looks OK on the surface, but the older they get the less they will want you interfering with their routine. I respect you for your willingness to work so hard, but with children, there's a fine line and balance to consider.Stile Thanks this. -
Thanks. I've been leaning the same way, just hard when I've been sitting in a truck stop since last night on the other side of the country. But 6 more months should go by fast.

Call Regal in North East Pa, they let drivers run the truck, out 3 wk in 1. Pay is good and they used to haul Grape Juice for Welchs but lost out to ElCheapo. They have some 500 HP Freightliners, in Robin Egg Blue and they run 75.

You need to start applying at any LTL outfit in your area.
Shaggy Thanks this. -
I know guys who have driven for six months and left to go to other companies that required a year or more experience. Those jobs also allowed the off duty time to accumulate. They were local mom and pop places though.
