Because cars & motorcycles like to drive under u-turning trailers & their families win multi-million dollar law suits. Obviously those drivers thought there was a big enough hole in traffic too, so the companies (usually megas) institute a blanket no u-turn policy. Having (and enforcing) one reduces their insurance costs.

This on top of idiot drivers tail-whipping stuff or crunching cab extender fairings...

Like Dave mentioned, your record won't be clean. MVR and PSP yes, but you can count on a nasty DAC.

wow.i was wrong.you made it easy for them.shneider doesn't have a drop yard in the atlanta area? heck, the safety shlub may have cautioned you and put you in another truck from the georgia area.

find a job asap if you want to keep driving.shneider probably uses that dac junk but then you didn't abandon a truck. so does it matter?

There's nothing that says stop quite like a tractor trailer sideways across a road. However, 90% of the ignorant excuses for humans that somehow managed to con someone into giving them a driver's license can't be bothered to take their nose out of their phone/radio/passenger/dog long enough to bother looking at the road ahead.

Then they (or their family) sue the trucking company.

In all fairness...Double yellow is most likely Right.

maybe Im Looking at it as experience and Not how an In-experienced driver has the same 'Feel' to throw a quick-safe U-turn without any issues....

Should this even be an issue? Absolutely Not! Nobody was hurt,He probably didnt tear up fairings...

I Dont Know...maybe its just a different Era ,With Different Policies that make it so hard on Drivers

Are inexperienced Drivers lacking Good judgement of on-coming traffic to perform this maneuver?? Could Be...I Dont knoiw

I Just think terminating this young man (Even with a policy in place) was WRONG considering the circumstsance he encountered....

Like I posted earlier.....A low bridge appears,You get a little nervous,And You Make the Best decision you can at that moment...

I have a Good question, What would have happened to him if he just drove straight into the Bridge?? Hey...He diodnt throw a U-turn!

a day cab driver did a u-turn back in my home city last year. killed someone. but it was both parties fault. the car was way far back enough he should have seen the rig turning around.

he's worked for 2 megas now. i'd hate to see his dac. the smart move is to NOT work for megas. smaller companies won't bad mouth you or even use dac.

I would tell them to kiss my #####! That's what I hate about people! They can't mind their own buisness! I'm sure the guy that told on you has at some point in his driving career has done same or worse! I wouldn't worry about it, if they have half a brain they would understand why you did that

Good luck driver. You don't need their grief. With a clean record you can do far better.

I would say that in a way this comes back in some degree to the company not the driver. When the driver was trained he should have been explained to or shown how to safely negotiate his way out of those types of situations. In my opinion the OP made a reasonable decision and resolved his dilemma without any problems at all, good job on his behalf. Except for the big mouth that wrote him up no one would have even known about it. OP you have moved on to better things hopefully.
