I have been off the road for ten years and I am really considering going back out. I was 3 years L/O with prime.
I am considering prime again because it is the only company i have experience with and i know how they operate. Have they changed much in ten years? I have been reading and it appears they train differently know. Does anyone know offhand how much time i would have to spend in someone else's truck before i went to A seat if any? I have been driving waste trucks ( WM)for the last 10 years.so its not the same but in many ways it is more difficult and dangerous. But i would expect to have to get back into the swing of things, Which probably would only take 3 days lol. I pull a pup trailer with a roll off truck quite a bit. ( I hate it) but i am the only employee that can legally pull it. Anyway, i just wanted to say hey to all the Prime people out there. And if any one can give me an idea of what i am looking at that would be great.
Am I crazy? Considering Prime again

You should talk with a recruiter but you'd probably be looking at 30-50k miles with a trainer. I think they want recent otr experience and i don't think they count local routes.
I'm sure your aware prime trucks arnt running 80 anymore, lease trucks are at 65, company 62. -
They set non company trucks at 65? If someones on a lease and they let someone set the speed on their truck all they are is a company driver with a truck payment. Whats worse is alot of these guys call themselves owner operators but really all they are doing is making prime money by leasing their equipment. My truck is set at 65 by choice and I run 55-57 so its not a need for speed issue. Why anyone would lease a truck from a bottom feeding predator outfit like prime in the first place is something I will never figure out.

Can I ask why you hate pulling a pup trailer? im about to start pulling one soon I have been running roll off for years now. Just wondering what im getting in to.

Desert skies, there are many things in the matrix i can't figure out why people do them. I won't go on about them here. But this is what I do know. It takes all kinds of kinds. And everyone had to start somewhere. Why would there be guys still at prime after many lease completions if it didn't work. I will also say this. It took me 6 years in my current job to make the money i was at prime. I now make more. Which is the scary part. I make almost 60,000 a year driving a trash truck in the rolling hills of kansas. that is straight pay not counting benefits. Add those in and I am at 68k for 48 hours a week average. The bad, i work my butt off in the elements. And I am not talking a few minutes outside i am talking a 8 to 14 hours a day outside in it. I got off the road for my family, most of my kids are grown and i am divorced now. The road is calling.

The pup trailer i pull is ancient and i have to manually tarp the box and load the box from truck to the trailer. Also the truck I use to pull it has no guts. The holds will drop me to 40. Hooking it up can take 6 or 7 tries. Its just a Pindle hook( a loop) on the tongue on the trailer and a hitch peg on the truck. Then getting it unhooked can be a pain as well to get the pressure of the pin off the hook. We aren't talking 5th wheel stuff here

And I can't see why anyone would even want to run 80 unless the just love padding big daddy oil pockets. Even in my pov i am doing 60-65

I can see the headaches with that. Im startimg I new acct here and they just purchased a trailer to use so I can haul a double load. This trailer has an auto tarp and hydrolic loader just like the truck a newer mack granite I wonder is this still called a pup trailer? I have haule 53 footers before im just thinking the aggravation off hauling a shorter trailer problems. Thanks for any input Drkmatr
