I have an idea...oh boy! Forget the new $135K deal I spoke of the other day. Upon further research, this was a bad idea. I'm the guy, early retired with just a little play cash.

    1. Go to a reputable trucking school, get my license.
    2. Get hired by CR England, go through their 2 months of traning out on the road.
    2. Purchase a used truck for about $40K, seems right now that will get you a fairly reliable rig.
    3. Obtain all required procedures to be an OO.
    4. Call up trucking companies when I want to work, probably for 3-5 weeks at a time. Drive like hell.
    5. Park the truck in the storage place across the street from my home and take 2-3 weeks off.
    6. Call up trucking companies, go out drive like hell for 3-5 weeks again.

Do this for a few years, sell truck for balance of remaining value ad get another.

Will trucking companies work with you this way if you own your own rig? Or do they want you to commit to them, blood and soul? Can you place your insurance on hold, taking it on and off when the truck sits?

Basically I want to drive here and there, then take time off when I want. I don't need to go full time. I figure for $40K, plus repairs and costs, this would yield a fair return over 3-4 years, plus get my out on the road.

    Give me your thoughts....

The way I read your post, you wanna go out and buy your own truck immediately after getting 2 months of 'training' ?!?

Make it 2 years, then think about it.

Your choice of wording in number 3 made me lmao.

You need to go buy a MOTOR HOME with your money. It will allow you to go from place to place. You keep telling us you are retired.
If you are interested in trucking find someone that will take you out for a week. Make sure you get an understanding for the job. You give me the impression you are looking for a hobby. I would not recommend trucking.

Yup , you're crazy . You'll be paying taxes and insurance even when the truck is parked . Carriers can't keep their reliable O/O's busy . Why would they use you ?

Take your money and light it on fire and it will do as much for you as buying a truck right now
