@Ridgeline the way I understand it as far as interstate commerce goes that 10,001 point is the way a CMV is treated. However I agree these definitions can cause someone to yank their hair out.

Two last questions, do you engage in interstate commerce ever? And if not, what state do you drive in? Keep in mind for interstate commerce the truck does not have to leave the state, only the freight need be from out of state or destined for out of state. Some warehouse operations will be always interstate while some can be solely intrastate.
Reason I ask is 14 of the 50 states have different definitions of what is a commercial vehicle with a few exempting all non-cdl vehicles that never engage in interstate commerce for motor carrier regulation. -
I have posted this in here several times before. This has most of the FMCSA rules as they apply to what they consider a CMV and the rules under which you operate them. For (INTERSTATE) operations this is the general guidelines. INTRASTATE is a different critter and I admit I am not knowledgeable about that.
