I'm a newbie with just my cdl permit.
I talked to a Schneider recruiter and she told me they are hiring for a dedicated driver for JC Penny. These are the stats she gave me:

Two simultaneous days off a week. May or may not be the weekend. Plus 24hrs more off at home during the week.
.24/mile starting with 2000 miles average
I pay $16 a week and they pay $60ish for 18 month contract for $3500 school.

The starting pay is low but I don't mind because only 3-4 nights a week in the truck seems nice. The mileage seems like an honest estimate to me with all the hometime. I wouldn't believe anything much more than that.

How does being dedicated work? Do you have preset routes you do every week? Or will it be different each time but just for the same company? Do you think they are offering this to new drivers because the low mileage and its hard to get experienced drivers to do it?

And could after training they just say they want me to work OTR and if I dont like it I have to pay for the school?

    Thanks for the answers!

You are being BS'ed. First of all; a 'newby' fresh out of driver's school has a snowball's chance in you-know-where of getting a dedicated load. Second of all; 2000 miles at 0.24 cpm??
That's ONLY $480 pre taxes and PRE road expences.
Ho much do you think you'll take home each week?

when i first started years ago, my first gig was walmart dedicated, fresh out of schooling. i totally agree with the rest of what you said. that pay is just bottom feeder nasty. nobody should step in a truck for less than .36cpm in my opinion.

Well i have heard from other drivers that the pay doesnt end up being that bad. Most of the loads are hand unload but not too bad since it is mostly cloths on hanger racks and I like the exercise. That with multiple stop pay adds up.

I would be happy with $500 take home. Sure beats the $250 i get now.

No, these days they probably would give a newbie a dedicated run, why pay more for it...if they can find some sucker to run it for that low of pay. hehe

at .24 cpm and 2000 miles, if your lucky being new, your just not gonna bring in 500$ a week to take home. you would have to run 3000 miles for that to even come close to that. and not with frieght the way it is right now.

First off. When did you finish high school? Second, did your school teach math?

If not, I'll break it down for you.

2000 miles at .24 a mile equals $480 a week, pretax. And you'll be making this rate for some time to come.

Based on an average 50 mph. Yes it could average out to that!! And unload time of 2 hours per load. Pretrip and fueling times.

You have over 50 hours invested for your $480.....just under $10 an hour. Unless of course you count the "sleeper" time while on the road. Then the rate goes down to $6.85 per hour if you spend 2 nights out.

McDonalds will pay more than this in some areas.
