Hello All,
O.K., here's my situation. I'm a 38 yr old male in good physical health. I've thought about becoming a truck driver a few times over the years and am currently considering the idea pretty heavily again. To the best of my recollection here's my pertinent facts:
1) I got a DUI just over 10 years ago. Negotiated guilty plea and court supervision satisfied so it should show up as dismissed. I checked with the DMV and they said a DUI stays on public record for 10 years so it should have just fallen off the public record.
2) Right at about 3 1/2 to 4 years ago I got a couple speeding tickets. I paid both the fines but not sure if I got court supervision. I think I got it on the first ticket but not on the second ticket.
3) Just a little over 3 years ago idiot me let my auto insurance lapse. 16 days after the insurance lapsed I caused an accident by rear ending a truck. The truck was pushed into the car in front of it as well. I was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no insurance.
As of #3 my driver's license was soon after suspended for financial responsibility violation because of not having auto insurance. I ended up filing bankruptcy because of the debt of the other auto insurers against me. My license has been suspended for the last three years, and just expired a couple months ago. I can get it renewed by carrying SR 22 insurance and keep it for 3 years to satisfy the financial responsibility requirement of the law.
Sooo, my question to you out there that would be so kind to answer to the best of your ability is... Am I in the least bit hirable when I renew my license by getting auto insurance and obtaining my CDL?![]()
Am I Hirable??

I am going to be straight forward with you. At the present time, you are wasting your time and efforts trying to get into driving a truck. Go find another line of work.
-
I have no idea,
but if you wanted to drive bad enough, you could find a way.
Just forget about the big outfits, medium size outfits, and Almost all small outfits !!!
Good Luck !!!!! -
Why don't you try to get a class b, so you can drive for a waste company, cement comp, or any company that requires a class b cdl. just my 2c
-
I worked for a company that drove dumps, and some of the drivers he had were great drivers, but they have DUIs and suspensions etc.
Hell, his longest tenured driver got a DUI this last year and nothing happened. really crappy situation, his wife left him so he goes out to the bar, has a few, and drives home. Talk about insult to injury. But he was able to stay on all year cutting trees or running a loader. Lots of construction jobs will hire if you have a spotty record, just be aware that you'll be required to do other kinds of work. -
Zowie, DUI, speeding tickets, not renewing insurance AND rear-ending someone? It's not looking good Pardner.......
-
Alot of companies will forgive the DUI after 10 years but the license suspension and accident is the killer. So NO you don't stand a chance of driving a truck. You might get lucky with a lower class but the problem you face is that the driver market is flooded and there's alot of drivers to pick from with a better record. Sorry.

least do yourself a favor and get the dui expunged from your criminal history. it may not be on your driving record but your criminal history will show it UNTILL Y OU HAVE IT EXPUNGED.
google for your local state's BCI. Background Criminal Investigation.
i didn't know a class B was all you need for garbage haulers. my license says class B only goes to 26,000 pounts. and i'm pretty sure a empty garbage truck weighs about that. let alone a full load of trash. -
Well the garbage trucks around here are only 2 axles.
-
it's not about the axles, it's about the gross weight. you need class A to haul more then 26,000 pounds. some trucks have empty weights of around 26000. but load them up and drive around with a class B. no no no
Saddle Tramp Thanks this.
