May so but my sentence is up in 5 months. I want to start out making $1000 minimum a week so I chose US Express and they offer a student CDL training program. Am I better off paying a local school and getting in now to get 6 months experience and apply for the better companies when my record is clean next year?

Private school will get you started sooner. Can go to work the day you graduate.
Carolina Cargo might hire you the day you graduate. If they will, drive for them until your driving record looks better. Contact Carolina Cargo and ask. www.carolinacargo.com
Contact Carolina Cargo and ask if they'll hire you before spending money on cdl school.
Later, you can go to US Express or even better go with a Teamsters Union outfit, such as PI&I Motor Express in Masury, Ohio or Nick Strimbu Inc. in Brookfield, Ohio.

With Carolina Cargo you'll run to west coast every week and get lots of miles. They run California or Washington every week. They just implemented a big pay raise also, so the paychecks will be real good.
Yes, they hire 21 year old driver new cdl grads.Last edited: Sep 22, 2018
Wargames Thanks this. -
Your first job is probably gonna suck anyways so just go to work and go somewhere good once your tickets drop off.
Don’t worry about that misdemeanor.
Do you want to go over the road? There is plenty of local stuff or line haul that will get you clearing 1k net once you got a year or two under your belt.Last edited: Sep 22, 2018

There's a job I want. I need 3 more months to hit the 5 year mark they require for my bad ticket.

Ask a lawyer if you can get it sealed. Some states will seal a misdermeanor after five years after , if it's your only conviction.
1000 a week might be hard until you get 6 months in. A good line haul or tanker company over the road. You can clear around 1000 week doing tanks after a year experience. Line haul will take longer to get the right bid, but your home daily/,nightly. Then 900 to a 1050 take home is douable. Or 1400 a week after 8 years. -
Just take it easy driving through truck stop parking lots. Some kid almost dragged his tandems clean over me driving his semi like he was in a monster truck. lol
1000 a week is attainable with good work ethic. If you are willing to load/unload your trailer and drive hard then the money should be there.Last edited: Sep 23, 2018

Yep food service is the easiest way to 1000+ net a week. I worked 4 days a week and avg'd 950-1150 take home depending on how high the case count was77fib77, Fold_Moiler and TravR1 Thank this.

And its rewarding knowing you are hauling stuff that people need to survive. You are working to put food on people's table.Brettj3876 and Fold_Moiler Thank this.
