Depends on what type of trailer your pulling. All trailers will need to hooked/unhooked at some point. Van trailers, open/close backdoor. Some loading/unloading but its rare unless your on a dedicated. Flatbed and oversize loads is probably your most manual labor in OTR trucking. Now LTL is a whole different type of trucking, because some could work the docks and drive the truck.

I would be going OTR, since I'm looking at Central Refrigerated. Well I think they are strictly OTR. Thanks

I would bet you would never have to touch a load working for Central or less than one in 100 anyways. (If even that.) Hooking and un-hooking are not a big deal at all....unless some jack hole drops it to low to get under and its loaded. Obesity in this industry is not only from the food, its from the lack of real labor.

Yeah, I don't remember ever touching a load with Central. It's a decent starter company IMO. I never had any problems working there, except when my DM went on vacation and I was suppose to get time off. Otherwise, they kept me running til I could not run anymore. :yes2557:

They do have dedicated runs or I should say, they use too. It might have changed but I think you have to be there 6 months or more to get on the dedicated.

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate that. Do you know if any other good companies that pay for your airfare to get to the training location and the room/board like Central does? Thanks

I sure don't. Usually companies that pay airfare, are small companies that hire experienced drivers. Some companies will reimburse for a rental car if the amount is the same as bus fare. < Just a thought for you

I have yet to find a trailer that was too low. Now too frickin HIGH? Yes. Seemed like 4 out of 5 hook loads I had to get out and crank down 50-100 cranks in low gear just to hit my fifth wheel. Nice.

The instructions on dropping a trailer elsewhere on this site seem to be lost on the masses.

Please! Leave an inch or two under the landing gear when you drop an empty! Drop your bags and pull out. It's simple. Really.

Thank you, from the next driver picking up the load in your dropped empty.

Had one that was dropped in a gravel paved yard on ice. Warmed up, ice melted and cavitated under the sand feet, dropped the trailer. Couldn't get under it even after lowering my bags ... had to manually crank until I could get it high enough to slip under it.

I envy you. I have to crank them all up it seems like but I have tall 24.5's and it can be hell hooking up to trailers that were dropped like that with low 22.5's.
