Funny thing is that I started in trucking on a skateboard. Was not too happy and wouldn’t go back to TMC.

You likely ARE insane for even considering it, but then again you drive a truck, so.............

i am recently actually having the same thought pattern. And here's why:

With OTR you pretty much (or at least i did) fall into your own schedule; You get tired, you pull over and sleep---WHEN YOU WANT.

With LTL, as you know, it's pretty hectic. It's rush, rush, rush. Everythings on deadline. You can AND SHOULD pull over if sleepy, but it's not the norm or preferred pattern in LTL. Fortunately our company doesn't give you much hassle over it----provided it's not a frequent thing.

So that's my biggest and really ONLY complaint with LTL linehaul.

Slip seating doesn't bother me. We keep the tractors fairly clean. i worked for FXF, didn't have a problem with tractor cleanliness while there and i would think drivers at this caliber of company would tend to keep things clean, but i guess it depends on the terminal?

OTR is even more laid back than LTL linehaul and that's saying something....

    P.S.
It's been a while and maybe things have changed, but concerning seniority, when i was at FXF, i felt that it wasn't true "seniority." So, i cannot comment on this matter as it relates to FXF with authority.

A few years ago hoovestal ( big mail contractor) was trying to get me to work for them .
What they didnt know was I worked for the company they leased yard space from in Omaha and they liked leaving they're slip seat trucks in the way and I had to move them occasionally.
Absolutely filthy every time and they expected me to sleep in them ...told em no way !!

No ... opposite for me. I don't know how anyone can drive a truck without a sleeper attached to it ????? Insane to me.

I did too. I enjoyed it, but the money just wasn’t there.

Not being compensated for being away from your life doesn’t sit well for me. I liked OTR but the money wasn’t there compared to LTL as a company driver. I rather be LTL. It’s a paycut to go OTR which IMO it should be the other way around.
