I'm doing it. I rather trade him and be where he is at. Small barn though so gonna take me at least another year to get what hes got.
Am I insane? Thinking about going back to OTR.

My barn has 15 road drivers, nobody likes running to NJ so that's why I got the run that I did. Been in the company since last summer.
-
Try and ride it out man...
I work for the same company as you. If I have to use the bathroom I’ll stop and go. If I need a coffee I’ll get one. If I’m tired I’ll take a short nap. No one has ever said anything to me about it. I never do 3 stops on a run to or from a hub tho. If it’s a Saturday and no one is waiting for the freight I have taken a 30 minute nap before. IThere’s a guy at my barn that takes his lunch after his gate and the inbound is always waiting on his freight because it typically loads in the nose of the city trailer. -
Never been spoken too about a few stops during transit either. But then again I try to not stop at all en route to the hub. The sooner I get there, the sooner I take my break, and the sooner my delay pay starts ticking, which begins immediately after my break.Digman943 Thanks this.

That’s because you’re coming from the north.
Texas_hwy_287 and jtaran06 Thank this. -
I’m surprised they don’t just forget about it and load peoples’ last stops on the tail.
Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this. -
It’s an easy run. Just gotta be comfortable with go around routes in either direction of travel and utilizing trip planning techniques; which is something I’ve noticed most LTL linehaul drivers aren’t comfortable or proficient with.Texas_hwy_287 and speedyk Thank this.

i do take up to 90min to 2 hr "naps" maybe once or twice per week and no-one generally gives me too much flak about it. Then again, i'm not doing it that frequently. That is another good thing about this company---they don't push if you're tired. The other thing to think about is we have to take a minimum 30 dot break, but we are also entitled to two 15 min breaks and technically a 1 hour lunch, so that's 90 mins total. This is per contract rules.
Yes, saturday or friday night AFTER inbound hub cut time i think you can take your time getting back home or to whatever terminal they send you.
Mon-through thurs, you want to make it to the hub by 12am and back to the terminal or destination terminal by 9am or 10am if the city guys don't start until 10:30am. Although earlier is best.
When i said in LTL you can't really stop, i meant you can't really stop and take 10 within reason. You can, of course stop for food or to "drain the radiator......" -
Actually, my situation is sort of turning into an OTR run in that i've had to stay in hotels more frequently lately. Usually i only average one hotel stay per 2 weeks, but now it's more like once or twice per week. One advantage of this is you can sort of make your own schedule to a certain extent.
Disadvantage---the terminal is short a tractor......
McUzi Thanks this. -
Yes, it would be insane to explain to your kids that daddy is not home much anymore because daddy doesn't like to share a truck that can get a little dirty sometimes....
