Am I Now Considered a Trucker with 3 months experience?

You sure know exactly what to say!!! I know I made it a point to shut up and listen in my first couple of years, now almost a decade in, I still make it a point to shut up and listen!

 

I am just my father's son. I grew up idolizing him and some of the other drivers he was friends with. Just listening to them was an adventure. We old school drivers MUST attempt to mentor these kids.

 

Times have changed. Now that does not mean some of the bad companies out there have.

I examined my work history which I maintained most of my life and found that it's in the range of 30 to 40 jobs.



You have to try and be diplomatic with the people in your trucking company that you work for. Not only say morning, afternoon etc but also try to learn their names and ask after the photos on their desks or some sort of awards they may post nearby in the cube of a sport etc. Strike up something in common, but just for a few moments only and move on. Eventually they will remember you and not your truck number. That is when you will start being given some plum loads which might be a reward for a total fiasco you had the previous one.



What divides the steering wheel holders and you is for example there you are in a prickly situation in chicago. What are you gonna do about that now huh? Im behind you hoping you will solve the problem the right way instead of becoming tomorrows video laughing stock. (*And I wonder sometimes why I follow along... Ive some stories on that.)

 

Not yet, takes at least 6 mos to reach that status. Hang in there, the payoff is well worth it.

 

My nephew at 9 had a little ride in my rig. He was all for becoming a trucker after. Fortunately his daddy was there to witness me telling him hell no you aint. Not with whats out there now. (We were in Indy, not the best of places for that sort of thing.) He made some choices later in life to go into war as a machine gunner like his daddy was and his great grandfather was. So I could not be happier.

 

I heard you ain’t a trucker until you poop in a Walmart bag. I’ve pooped in a port a potty in a drop yard in Wisconsin in -29 degree weather and I believe that’s worse than a Walmart bag.

 

If youve received compensation for services rendered in the discipline of operating a commercial vehicle.......yes.....you are a trucker......you will enter "super trucker" status upon your first time that you have to utilize your paper road atlas as toilet paper on the side of the road in Wyoming......

 

Take ONE DAY AT A TIME.....do perfect, safe ,work for a LOOOOONG duration......stay at your jobs for years at a time......yes......this is how we old -timers have done it.....its a fermentation process......like good whiskey.......painfully long and aggrivatin......but it pays off.....

 

I've got you beat! heres my story... are you ready... I went out to a oil well one night all alone and it was so cold -31 in Williston, ND. I was there picking up a load of crude oil and then suddenly "it" hit me... I had to go... I dropped a deuce in between the tanks, long story short pumper found it and made my boss go clean it up!!! HA!
