After looking at both of your threads, it appears to me that your boss is making love to you in a bad way! Run as fast as you can to a better employer. That way you will get paid when they make love to you.
    Good luck !

How else is it going to get fix'd? Fix-a-Flat?

No, it means that if your tire, and this applies to any tire, is compromised past a certain point, it is literally illegal to patch it. You cannot patch it anywhere on the sidewall, for example. One patch over a small hole in the tread is ok, two is pushing it, three is outlawed, or something like that depending on the tire type, ply, etc. Plugs are illegal too except for certain patch/plug combinations.

It was years ago that they did it so the details are fuzzy. They had to do it because there were idiots out there patching and repatching and then retreading tires that were by that time made of of 50% patches that then exploded (duh) and killed someone. Or trying to patch a hole the size of a railroad spike, that's illegal. Any hole over a certain size (very small) is illegal.

Getcha one a dem $9 kits at da Kmarts and PLUGS AWAY!!!!:biggrin_25525: And tell the boss you are only responsible for the sides of the tire that are not flat. Question- You actually told him you didn't check your tires?(not excusing that you didn't) That's probably being TOO honest. IMHO

If you had done the PTI, you would have reported the damage and had the tire replaced, at company expense. So, you failed to do part of your job and cost yourself money. It's a fine for not doing your PTI.

(It really sucks to have a fuel filter go out, 5 minutes after leaving the truck stop. AFTER the PTI!)

I admire your honesty in telling the company you did not check your tires.
But IMO it is you fault you did not check them, and catch the flat.
From the way you stated what happened you got up and hit the road
You did not do a pre trip of any kind. You have to take the time for that.
It only takes a min. to do a walk around, look your ride over and kick the tires.
It could save your life or the life of someone else. Some wingnut could
have unlocked your 5th wheel, all the water or oil could have leaked out over night.
Or a tire with a slow leak went flat. When it comes to trucks you just never know till you look.
As an O/O it is a habit to do a walk around every time I stop.
A new drive tire cost over $500 by the time you walk out the door with it on the truck now days.

    Just a little constructive criticism.

Ugh, you guys and your gold plated tires. I don't even want to know where you find tires priced that high.

I don't run that cheap "made in china" crap on my truck. A high quality, aggressively lugged, made in USA Michelin XDE M/S* 11R24.5 LRH is just shy of $600 these days. By the time I have my case capped twice, my overall cost per tire is down to around $300/use....and I still get a decent amount when I trade 'em in for case credit after I'm done with 'em. Not only that, but a good high quality tire doesn't need any assistance to seat the bead...just stand the tire up and put the air chuck on the tire valve. If you change your own tires like I do, that counts for something too.

I saw another O/O at one of the yards one day....had 8 brand new drive tires on his truck....still had the little nipples on 'em.....but 2 were already different from the other 6. He had got a heck of a deal on those 8 tires, and 2 blew out within 100 miles so he had to buy 2 more. By the time you buy each tire a couple times and repair the damage those cheap crap tires cause when they come apart, you're spending more money than you would have if you had just used a high quality tire to begin with.

I would have a problem with buying the bossman a new tire to replace a POS tire. Offer to buy a POS tire, like the one that blew.

Agree with that! I have the XDE virgin rubber all the way around on mine.
Great tire and well worth it in my opinion. The drives we will cap one time on those casings when the time comes.
No caps on my trailer either.
No tire problems all summer running heavy and 80 mph.
