I was in my personal vehicle and got pulled over for speeding. The officer noticed i had cdl and instead of a speeding ticket he gave me a citation. On the citation he gave me there is a box to check off if he gave me a speeding ticket. He did not mark that, instead he marked the box that says other and wrote for traffic control devices. He said it would be no points on my license. That why he cited me with that instead of speeding ticket. I just got bigger tires on my car and forgot the speedo is off so i thought i was only doing about 3-4ish over but was actually doing 9 over.
Will it go on my mvr? If it does that's the only thing that will be on there, I have no other violations, or tickets. Now here's the kicker I was suppose to have a road test today for job but it got changed for tomorrow. If they look on my mvr will it show up that fast? Should I tell them about it?
Am i screwed? got my first moving citation

He gave you a break, looks like for having radar detector. Just go ahead, pay it and forget about it. Just call the court and ask about points on this ticket, just to be sure
-
You didn't get a moving violation; just pay it and forget about it.
skyviper73 Thanks this. -
Citation. Ticket. Same thing. If you want to get technical the 'citation' is presented to you in the form of a 'ticket'.
But - as far as speed vs traffic control device, it all depends what state you live in. In Ohio, you are getting points for either. Again, in Ohio, if you get convicted of three speeding infractions within 12 months, the penalties get more severe, so the traffic control device violation does help you if you make it a habit.
As far as showing up on your MVR, it's only after the violation is adjudicated 'guilty' (either by a judge or you simply paying the fine via waiver) that it gets entered onto your MVR. Your MVR will then show both the violation date and conviction date. Nothing will show on your MVR until then. If for some reason you can get the charge dismissed, then nothing will ever show on your MVR from this infraction. Again, this is under Ohio law. -
You caught a lucky break. Get your speedometer recalibrated or next time it will be points on the license.

Well hold on a sec. In the notes he wrote 44 in 35. Has nothing to do with a radar detector as i do not own one. Its PA btw. He assured me its no points on license

Many years ago, (in fact April of 1994) I had bought a brand new Ford T-Bird. (On April fools day in fact!)
That weekend, I was riding through a city, and got nailed for seeding, 40 in a 25 zone. Cop came up to me, I already had license, registration and insurance card out the window. He first laughs and said no one is EVER that ready. Then he see's I have a CDL. Asks me if I know why he stopped me and I said yeah you wanted a closer look at my car.
Then said, no, I really do not know, he tells me my speed. I humbly said I should have been more aware, and I was sorry. He says, well I see you have a CDl and I usually DO NOT ticket you guys, and you do sound sincere about your apology. Then he DID take a look under the hood, inside the car, said his wife was bugging him to buy one.
He let me go, no ticket, no warning. Can't say if he ever bought his wife a Bird, but the one thing I DID LEARN was, "own up right away, sometimes the punishment you get, is NO punishment at all!
And show off your new car too! lolsuperflow and skyviper73 Thank this. -
Lawyer up. Most posts I see in here suggest fighting everything. I have a court date for a red light camera Tuesday. Withholding adjudication should keep it from your record.
-
^Where do you live? Because here in WA a red light ticket is considered a parking ticket, which doesn't go on your record. Fighting a ticket like that would be a waste of time and money since you have to miss work for it.
OT- Even if it does go on your MVR.... it's just 1 violation(since you say your MVR is clean). I doubt your potential new job would kick you to the curb for that. And for heavens sake... no, do not tell them about it. Handle it yourself and if all fails and it shows up on your mvr, they won't know unless they do a yearly check.
Anyway, do your research on it rather than depending on a forum for an answer. If it's a potential for getting points then lawyer up if you want a shot at getting it dismissed. If not, then just pay it.Last edited: Jan 9, 2015

Yea i know not to openly admit it but if they ask Im gonna tell them. If they ask and i lie about i think would cause more problems if they find out. It's a small family owned company. And yes other than this my record is spotless
