I graduated from cdl school on aug 6 and automaticly had two recruiters trying to pack my bags and rush me off to different states. I wanted to go OTR immidiatly after finishing school but I have to attend a destination wedding (4 days) the second week of sept. These two recruiters could not assure me Id be able to make it. My question is am I screwing myself by waiting until after the wedding, will I not be considered a "recent graduate". sorry about the long post.

could you not pre-hire though the company you want but schedule your orientation after the wedding? its technically 4 weeks, im sure they could do that for you if not longer. just tell them that you want too work for them but not unless they can work with you...

The first question is: wedding,is it family or friend? If friend, well they understand if you miss the wedding because of you're getting a job.
Second question is, what companies are you applying for & call them to explain your situation. Don't always on rely on the recruiters. -
Big Don and TheHealthyDriver Thank this.

Its my brothers wedding, im best man.
-
Yes you need to call the companies and explain that to them. I would not miss either of my brother weddings best man or not for anything.

GO TO THE WEDDING.The job can wait.

I hate going to weddings; they're about as uncomfortable as funerals. Personally, I would try to find any way possible to weasel my way out of it. I'd take the job and just tell my brother that unfortunately I can't make it because I have to work a new job and don't have the ability to take time off this soon. I'm very sorry and we'll catch up some other time. But that's just me, I've never been very family oriented and am rather a recluse, and since I'm not loaded, personally I'd rather start working and making money asap rather than spending it on vacations before I'm employed.
I missed my brother's wedding because he was on the other side of the country and because frankly I don't want to spend my hard earned money on plane tickets, room and board, and cab fare. And the fact of the matter is that even if I ever planned to get married, I would thoroughly understand if he didn't show up to mine. -

well thats something only you have to decide.
Like i said in my first answer, will they understand.
