Let me start with a bit of background information since I am new around here. I'm one of those guys who grew up in a trucking family/small town and told myself for most of my life that I would NEVER drive truck like the old man.... Always had a healthy respect for the job and loved being on the road but just saw myself doing other things.

Like many others I finally gave into the born-in desire to start driving a few years ago. Until that point I only drove every so often to help out an O/O buddy on weekends or run with my dad for a few days. I had just come back from the army and had no verifiable experience so decided to get driving school under my belt(embarrassing to admit and still get #### from my driver buddies) to ensure I could get onto the OTR company I wanted. I had a job lined up coming out of school but unfortunately let a relationship keep me local. For the last 2.5 years I've been driving local hauling various kinds of freight...basically anything from heavy equipment to turf.

Now to be honest I have a great job at the moment... I drive for Pepsi delivering bulk loads via 48/53ft van... Love what I do, home every night, and pay is decent. For personal reasons, however, I still would like to head over the road doing flatbed and eventually heavy haul/O.D. You are probably looking at this saying that I shouldn't have a problem and you would be right IF I hadn't let my young age show this spring....

It's not worth getting into details but I was dealing with some personal issues and my motorcycle was my escape... I was irresponsible and managed to get 2 speeding tickets on the bike.... a 15 and 20(possibly 18, not sure atm)... Other than a 5 over in my car 2 years ago my record is clean...no accidents or alcohol/drug issues in a truck or personal vehicle.

I have started looking around and making calls to companies being completely honest and up front regarding my record. Before I am lectured or flamed I will say right now that it was without question an error in judgment on my part and if I have to wait a few years to drop them off my record there is no one to blame but myself.

I am looking for any thoughts on decent flatbed companies(big or small) that may work with me. As I said I have a great job and have no interest in jumping into just any crap company who will take me but I realize I can't be to picky at the moment... I live in eastern Iowa....I have about a year of flatbed experience with bits and pieces of O.D./Heavy ...I have no real home time requirements...I am use to living in a truck....I think I pee'd more in a coffee can growing up than I did in a toilet :biggrin_2559:

Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to read this and any feed back would be great!!

Maverick, Melton, TMC, Try them, your probably going to have to go back to school again before you can be hired for OTR with most decent size-large companies, Remember 20 years local doesn't equal 6 months OTR in the eyes of a carrier or an Insurance company!

Good Luck, I hope you can find a good company that will work with you...

How long ago were speeding tickets? Most companies won't touch you with those. Their insurance won't let them.

Check with Kellogg's and see if they can use you in their yards. or talk to some of the old farmers they all haul to and from market

I grew up hauling grain and am not interested in a yard job....I appreciate the response but I am already working a good local job....was just curious if anyone knew of any companies that are a bit more likely to talk to me.
