Thanks Tomcat for the Happy birthday!
Yeah, tell the guy he looks 50, and he's walking on air.
Tell him he looks 70 and might as well kick him in the shins.
Anyway - Again, this Rolls Canardly; with the "Old Guy" stories,
My father retired in 1974, and spent 20 plus years golfing,
(Skytop, Buck Hill, Mt. Airy, and Shawnee)
and fishing, and driving from Pennsyltucky to Florida every winter.
Six months here and six months there. Got a place in a 55 and older community, 2 blocks from the lake.
I was dumb to sell it, looking back now at 64. Guess I was 50 at the time. Didn't interest me then.
We figured he drove over 50,000 miles back and forth, and would drive most of the time straight thru.
Did this until he was 89, last trip he played golf in the Poconos in November, passed away in March.
One of these guys that never even had a headache, died of prostrate cancer.
His doctor told me that he knew he had it for six years, never let on, and told doc not to say anything.
Tough generation.G13Tomcat and DDlighttruck Thank this. -
@rolls canardly those old guys/dads were some tuff dudes,I seen my dad sit in a chair for a couple days drinking licker and water trying to fight off malaria he had caught in the naval hospital in pearl harbor and I'D pass by him and just say a few kind words and get on with myself and now I think back and realize what a tuff dude he was and never complained and went to work drunk as hell on monday morning from drinking all of sunday.
DDlighttruck Thanks this. -

You are never too old to be in trucking. I have family that still drove trucks at 85 years old. That was here and there but full
time type trucking well well into their mid 70's.
The only problem you may find is some companies insurance will begin penalizing them for you being over 65.
The big boys may try to shun you away but find a smaller company who truly values you.
I've been heard saying recently to keep your office median age fairly young, and your driving median age fairly old. It just works best as long as the office has leadership that strongly embraces helping its drivers. -
audeygdad and JL of Indiana Thank this.
