Was off for a few days and I just picked up a trailer at the drop yard they have here. Noticed the trailer was sitting super low, and I couldn't find anything. Almost no brakes. It took all I had to stop it. Now, on a short load, only about 30 miles or so, I'm sitting at the Petro in Carlisle, PA, because the last steering wheel holder dropped the trailer just like this. With a load on it. He picked it up about 450 miles away, drove it in the condition it's in and now I get to deal with it. It's only been sitting a day, this did not happen while it was parked overnight. How in the hell can someone pull a trailer like this, not notice something is wrong or not care????? This isn't just a lazy issue. It's a safety issue. Unreal. Un ####### real. Am I wrong for calling the company and losing my mind at them?

Probably shouldn't go off on the company except to let them know what his pos did...but you have every right to be extremely pissed....I picked a trailer up a month ago with all 4 tires on the rear tandems with no tread and 3 were flat... Company didn't care.. said get it fixed 2 hours I won't get backmje and Truckergirl0720 Thank this.

I'm a little confused .. no brakes? super low? are those two somehow related or did a driver drop a trailer that had numerous brakes out of adjustment, AND didn't crank the gear down all the way? When you work for a company that puts on a hundred new solo drivers every week you have to expect this sort of thing is gong to happen, then combine that with the fact many more drivers simply don't give a dam and of course you'll have a lot of those too if you have also have a lot of turnover. Sorry man. But that's life trucking today with the large carriers. Find a small or mid-size carrier and many of these sorts of problems will reduce significantly.

I don't think raging at the company is the right move. I would call the company and play up the safety angle and lost productivity with all the earnestness you can muster and see if you can't get the lazy, inconsiderate mf who pulled that bs held accountable.

It's almost like there is no air going to the trailer. It's not about having to do it, I can and will. It's about who the hell pulls a trailer in this condition?? When I said low I meant low as in the tires are almost touching the trailer with it coupled. My main gripe is some steering wheel holder moron decided to pull it like this. On I-70, I-76, 11 in OH and PA. Out of Troy, OH to Carlisle, PA. Have people lost their minds? And the reason I went off was because this isn't the first time I've had equipment that had serious safety issues that the last driver should have addressed. Every trailer I pull gets the thrice over. When its dropped, its washed and full of fuel, not to mention, as I said, inspected. This is part of your job guys. It's not only to drive but to make absolutely sure that the trailer is road worthy. I don't care if I'm going to be late. If its unsafe, it's unsafe and its not going anywhere until it is. My family and yours are out on these highways. Jesus this should be simple and not have to be explained.

Maybe I'm strange, but when I run into a problem similar, I write it up on the pre-trip and hit the road. Maybe that stems from my military background, making do with what you have to get the job done. I've noticed, working with military vets and meeting them on the road; most have the attitude, "It'll be a cold day in hades before this stops me!" Not saying it's right or wrong, it's a culture thing.

Are you sure your blue line doesn't have a hole in it.. If it is something like "almost feels like no air is going to the trailer" it can happen in about 2 seconds... I had one years ago do this I was cussing the previous driver got out adjusted all the brakes on the truck.. and just happened to have the window down when I was pulling up and hit the Johnson bar and I hear air..... Turns out I had a hole in the return line.... It might not be the trailer.. air leaks happen all the time without warning.. good luckmje Thanks this.

If you write it up and hit the road and get down the road and can't stop and run a kid over you are under the jail....either way you are under the jail I guess but writing it up and driving isn't exactly intelligent.. A driver dropping a malfunctioning trailer is par for the course in the world of trucking...people simply don't give a crap about others on this malfunctioning planet....best to try to spot issues before you roll out onto the road with it,then once you spot an issue promptly drop the problem right in the owner or maintenance depts lap before you go any further.Don't go down the road dragging tires because the brakes are stuck,or a few of the lights are out,etc,don't even roll out onto the highway with a mudflat missing...protect thyselfluvtotruck, mje and tallpaulslady Thank this.
