Hello all,
I was wondering how many Amateur radio Operators we have out there Driving big rigs? I have seen a couple Hams on the forums so I was wondering what type of radio and antenna you use?Did you install an HF radio in your truck? What type of problems you might have encountered such as RFI when you installed the antenna. Is there a grounding problem with newer Trucks? Has anybody tried running QRO (High Power) if so was there any interference to the computer or anything on the newer trucks?
How do most trucking Co. react to some people wanting to install a different antenna and radio? It would be fun to set up a mobile DX shack !
Thanks for any comments or Sugg.

Well there are several of us on here. ANd yes i ran QRO in the truck legal limit and had a few problems but after grounding every thing and a load of toroids on the injector lines of a detroit series 60 it went to working pretty good woked all over the place out of the mobile. Even ran APRS gateway out of it had HF and VHF and internet in the truck so had a bunch of fun with that. Had folks all over watching me go down the road and would get call all the time when i went thru there home towns and have coffee with a bunch of folks. I ran 14.302.5 back then allot of us did and had allot of funn running cross country keeping up with freinds and metting up for cofee and luynch ahd stuff it sure made trucking fun and will do it again as soon as i return to the states and get back into the truck.

Ok Thanks for your response! Sorry I havent had time to get back on the computer. I just finished my school and got back home to get on the computer.
Thanks for all the input. can anyone tell me if truckers frequent any one frequency ?(80m,40m,20m,15m) I might be able to talk to you from my home.My plan ...If I can get away with it is .When I get issued my truck I will run a Icom 706MKIIG and a kj7u antenna It also does 160M and a power cube from SGC 500 watts PEP.I hope it will not interfear with the qualcomm.or cause any problems with the electronics with the truck.
I also plan to try APRS if I can get the kenwood in the rig so my wife can check it out if she wants.
I suppose I should stock up on ferrite beads for RFI also.
Talk to ya later!
