I do that too, and almost every time I do, I get a thanks, and sometimes a wave as I pass a minute later. Maybe it's just AZ. The other 4 wheelers get POd because I'll drop my speed a little bit to let them in instead of trying to run past him and hanging him out. I figure I can make up the 5 seconds it costs me in about a half a mile.

I agree that it's society as a whole but I have to say that I hear a lot more garbage on the radio and in person from long time drivers.

An example. The other night I pulled into a truck stop. I didn't pull into the fuel line I pulled into the scale. Well.......behind the scale because the lovely independent trucker had parked on the scale while he went inside. Yes, he got his scale ticket but he also got his subway.

I waited.......patiently. He came out walked back to my truck and informed me "swift back up, I gotta pull my tandems and reweight" I pointed to the sign that said "do not adjust tandems or park on scales" He then cursed me out. I said "okay fine I'll back up and thanks for setting such a good image for drivers".

I backed up....he pulled his tandems and reweighed. then he pulled forward as two other trucks were now behind me and they were honking.

I weighed......pulled off the scales and went to park. YES I..a newbie...a swiftie.....went to park. He was attempting to park in a spot with FIVE open spaces. He did 4 pull ups. I waited. I waited while he and 3 other truckers #####ed about swift, women drivers and newbies on the radio.

Then he said "I'm letting the "b" go by she's got her lights on".

You know what......I did. I had my lights on.....I was tired and forgot to switch them off. If ONCE he'd mentioned it on the radio I'd have killed them.

Now here's my point. In that truck stop. I counted 12 trucks parked in the fuel line not getting fuel but inside. Not a one of them were swift.

Myself and four other swift trucks scaled while I was there.....none of us parked on the scales but 3 independents did, 1 werner, 1 jb hunt both did but the schneider didn't and neither did 1 other independent.

But all I heard on the radio was "swift and newbies".

Bull. It doesn't have anything to do with the company or the newness of a driver.....it has to do with the driver's attitude.

That jerk in the flatbed that cussed me out........I'll bet he's a jerk all the time not just in his truck and not just that night.

There's people on this forum that I figure are some of the biggest jerks on the road and others that I bet money on being some of the most decent, kind people alive.

People are who they are no matter where they are.

    *end of rant*

I'm taking little boys to the store to buy hot wheel cars. If you see a red haired woman with two 3 yr old tazmanian devils in wal-mart......it's me.

Texas Nana I'm not directing this at you...I was gonna post it here even before I read your post but this idiot that I encountered this morning just happened to drive for Swift.

I was at the Flying J in Lasalle, IL. this morning fueling my truck at about 06:30 as I walked over to get a paper towel to wipe the dipstick this idiot in a Swift truck comes through the fuel island about 20 MPH and slams on his brakes and parks it in front of the islands jumps out of his truck and goes inside. I finished fueling, Got my reciept, Went out and parked my truck and started to head inside to brush teeth, Wash face and so on. As I'm going towards the door here comes Swifty (He' been in there about 30 minutes by this time) with his cowboy hat and scraggly beard walking towards me. I said HEY! Why don't you slow down when you drive through a truckstop and the fuel islands in particular?

"Mind your own business!" He says...I almost smashed him right there! But I thought better of it and instead told him what I thought about fools like him and then went about my business.

Clowns like that are ruining this industry and then leaving it for the rest of us to deal with. I for one am not bashful about telling them what I think.

Get his truck # and call the company to report him. If a driver is unsafe then his company should know. I don't care who he drives for. Or she.

    Or if it's me.

If I reported all of the idiots that I see every day I would be on the phone all day every day! I'll call someone in for texting when they're driving if they're weaving all over the road but other than that I leave them to their own devices or if I get the chance I say what I think face to face!

Suffice it to say that I'm completely disgusted with these things that pass as drivers these days!

I'm going to step on some toes but.....Swift and quite a number of their drivers...(Not all so don't get bent over my observation and the observations of others....) have a reputation that proceeds them.....

I had one Swift driver follow me up the 97 out of Weed to the top of that first grade and tell me that using my 4-ways was "illegal"........

He said that he learned that in a safety meeting and that using the 4-ways on a grade causes other drivers to think you're stopped......

This coming from a driver who works for a carrier that "fights" to have the worst safety record with Werner.....

I was taught that when your rig drops significantly below the posted speed limit, to ALWAYS turn your flashers on, to warn those behind you that you are slow, and to avoid a 4-wheeler from running up under you, doing 75 MPH....

    Has that changed???

First off I am a "Newer Driver", Since I began driving I usually think how my actions will affect others. I flash people in, thank them when they do.

Slow down when being passed by big trucks on single lane. I usually ask drivers who are obviously running at a higher speed then I if they want the pass, and do my best to give it to them.

Go and park if I think there is any possibility of not being back to move my truck before the next guy is done fueling...

And I find it disgusting seeing the way some drivers act these days both on the road and in the truck stops....

Ardmore Oklahoma a few weeks ago as I was walking inside to have my shower, there was a Roehl driver taking his morning leak from the top step down between his truck and the next!

After my shower i counted the steps back to his truck....

It was 75 steps to the front door, so to save these 75 steps he feels he can pee all over another drivers truck....

    Hardly disrespectful at all :(

The worst part about this as a guy who grew up in the country, I would rather pee in the bushes then the bathroom, and was blown away by this action!

ragtopjr, do your best to keep these good habits. Lead by example and maybe others will see your pride in your profession and follow.

    Texas-Nana,
I wish I could say that will never happen again, but it probably will. There are alot of considerate, helpful drivers out here, but ones like those you ran into really should go do something else. I am fed up with the attitudes of those types of drivers and the garbage they talk on the radio. Woman or not, no one should have to put up with that. Just my opinion.
