I agree, just like anything else if it wasn't Amazon someone else would have eventually done the same thing, so do we blame Amazon, the people supporting the cause, the government for allowing them to take over the industry? Amazon on the trucking side has truly mastered the logistics of moving freight, the commodity becomes irrelevant. The issue is they have become so big that its now a game of "how big" can they get? did you guys read the article about how Amazon owed about 260 mil in taxes to Texas and when they came to collect Bezos threatened to shut down his facility's there so they forgave the taxes, that's a scary amount of economic power....

So basically Amazon gives everyone "free shipping" by them paying 100$ a year for Prime, then charges everyone state taxes with 0 intention of actually paying that tax to the states who should be receiving the tax?
If so then I don't see that ending well for Amazon.Proxy, JOHNQPUBLIC and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -

Well there is more to the story.
Texas forgave Amazon for the sales taxes between 2005-2009 not federal or other state taxes. In exchange they would bring around 2500 jobs and 200million in capital investment to the state.
Not defending amazon nor do I care but we have to have the right information.
Just saying paying Taxes for the years that had no such laws is a bit harsh. Because it only started collecting sales taxes in California starting 2011 and this happened in 2012 in Texas.Proxy and JOHNQPUBLIC Thank this. -

Well for something to happen like that more of a contract would be in place, and instead of the city forgiving the sales tax first would be more of a performance based. IE amazon does this city reduces this much, Amazon does that city reduces that much. Make sense?
