Put it in storage. I would invoice Amazon for storage and trailer rental. Maybe file a lien as well. If they don't pay up foreclose on the lien so you have legal title to the contents, then Ebay the lot of it. It might be worth a hour of a lawyer's time just to make sure you know where you stand legally. Without any paperwork tying you to that cargo I think you're on pretty firm ground though. Either way you need to get your trailer back into the earnings column.
Have you looked inside to see if you see anything valuable? I trust we're not talking about a trailer load of pallets.

Just look up all the past stories on this forum over the last 5 years of others that it’s happened to and you’ll have your answer.

That being said, I still have a load of pipe that a shipper wouldn't take back off my trailer. I told the broker I was leaving, told the shipper too, and called the sherrif to let the know I wasn't stealing it.
I took it home and unloaded it by the barn. I let the owner know where it was.
I gave them plenty of opportunity to unload it. Sherrifs dept and PA knew it.
I'd pay a laweyer to send a letter that they have xx # of days to resolve it, or you will unload and store.Last edited: Nov 2, 2023

I love threads like this to remind me to never carry stuff for a big disorganized behemoth like Amazon. Sometimes I skirt the edges hauling spot loads but I can tell you I DON'T EVER unhook from my trailer without it being in sight. And I don't even like that.

Assume a trailer ownership cost of $50 a day and 250 Amazon DCs. If each DC has 1 "accidently on purpose borrowed trailer", that's over $4 million in "savings" for Amazon each year. Between the mega fleets and small carriers using rented trailers I think Amazon can basically use between 500-1,000 "free" trailers a month.Siinman, Old_n_gray, Feedman and 2 others Thank this. -
It's scary to think but you are probably right. The reason these companies get bigger and richer is that they are creative and more spineless than me.
