Hey I need to mount an amber light to a headache rack. Obviously I could easily go the pipe mount way but was thinking of having a bracket fabricated to go between the uprights of the headache rack and raised just above the roof of the cab. My question would be; does anyone know of something sold online or somewhere I could substitute for that. Haven't seen anything online yet and of course I could have someone local make it but that isn't gonna happen too fast and was trying to get it set up asap to go pick up an OD dozer within a week or so.

Why not get a peice of steel plate, say 1/8" and put it in your vise, heat it up and little and bend it so it's an L shape, it can mount your amber light and then on the lip you could put a small piece of rubber between it and your headache rack, make sure your drill a couple of holes into it, then run bolts through your rack and the bracket.

You shouldn't need to heat 1/8 to bend it 90*

I usually just take some channel iron that will fit in the uprights of the headacheack then weld a piece of quarter inch plate to the top with a gusset on each side down to the channel then drill the uprights and the channel and bolt it up there with a lightbar on top.

Murray trailer sales in Stockton Ca might have something your looking for. They specialize in that kind of stuff.

Keep in mind where your running and look at your provision sheets. Depending on your width you don't need amber lights in all states. Very few states seem to actually require them anymore. And seeing that your from Georgia I would assume you know you need an amber light permit.

Thanks fellas, I just got a 5' piece of threaded 1" pipe for a single strobe beacon. I bolted it to the upright for the headache rack. It'll do for now till I have time to make something more ornate. Had to set it up quick cause I gotta pick up a dozer in NC going to KS and I read the KS rules and I believe it said anything over 9' you gotta have an amber light. Also aware of the GA light permit, believe NV has one also. Kinda of a p.i.a. as it's only $2.

Speaking of amber lights, I believe the last time I brought an OD out of NY the permit specified the diameter of the light. Something like, 6-9 inches I think it was. In other words those cheap strobes in the TS wouldn't be legal. The load paid well enough I just bobtailed into town and bought the $100 beacon they wanted and then zip tied and rubber snubbered it to my SS visor. It made it all the way to Cali!

Since then I've gone round and round about a permanent solution. I installed two of the random pattern rectangular LED amber strobes to my trailer, but haven't done the tractor yet. I want to use either a 4-6 foot light bar, or two 360 degree mini led lightbars for the truck. Would be kinda cool if some of you posted pics of what you are using for beacons along with what you like or dislike, and what you did, or would do differently. Like mounting locations, etc?

Seems to me like it would be easy to mount them off of the top mirror bracket arm? When I ran dump bucket that's where we had our strobes mounted for asphalt jobs...

Lightweight cheapy strobes that aren't legal in some states might be OK mounted like that, but the legal ones are much heavier. If your mirrors are mounted to the door and not the cab, like my truck, not good!

I have two 6" strobes mounted to the top of my mirrors on a short piece of PVCpipe. But my mirrors are mounted to the cab.
