thats one thing i like about the trucking biz, its a level playing field. Whether you pull up in a 99 Freightliner or an 09 Pete, the rate is the same when you leave the dock.
My first truck was an 02 Freight Liner and a dry van. I remember being at a truck wash in Albuquerque and talking to a guy washing his brand new 135k Kenworth with his 8k bumpers and 4k door steps. I thought to myself, this guy is an idiot. I could have bought 6 of my trucks for the price he paid for his and ran circles around him. I dont get spending that much for a truck.Bucktrucker Thanks this. -
Sometimes you do get a higher rate for the nicer equipment. I have personally hauled machinery to and from shows and customers that I got cause of my newer equipment. You have to spend money to make money. When I had my flat with a Fastrack system the machinery rates were great...but since the economy dropped the freight is hardley moving.
If you are just starting out I do agree. Go out and spend $6000 on an old mechanically sound truck. Then all the money you save, put towards a new truck years down the road. Just stay away from lease purchase programs, no matter what company it is. They are all after one thing. TO MAKE MONEY!!! They don't care if you go banckrupt, they will just get the truck back and "resell" it to somebody else.Bucktrucker Thanks this. -
