South East Ohio too. Watch out on any of the 2 lanes, especially in the hills. Come around a sharp corner be on the lookout. Can't see them too good when it's getting dark

For the most part that's right, but there's more that goes on that you don't see or know. This happened near me and yes I believe who said it. If you live in the country in Amish area lock your doors. If you're not home they have been known to help themselves to using your phone. Then you'll wonder why you've got a lot of calls to Ohio and Pennsylvania.o_O

Also there have been several incidents of rape, sexual abuse and some incest reported in the papers. Those I'm sure you can find by googling it. There was a horrific case in this area a few years ago. They went to jail and rightfully so.

There's good and bad in every demographic though. Just know the Amish aren't perfect and them "living on their terms" isn't always right morally or otherwise. I still wave whenever I pass them and I hold no I'll will towards them until given a reason otherwise. That's the way it should be with everyone.

I saw the Amish horse and carriage parked at a McDonald's once, in Ohio, and in a handicap spot. I wonder if they would get a ticket had the law seen that.....

Disclaimer: I have no beef with the Amish. I do enjoy a good laugh though.

Joking aside...The Amish I've met up in Lancaster, PA and other areas have always been friendly. Make some great food, and furniture to. Whenever I visit family up in PA I make sure to visit a couple Amish farms/bakeries I know of.

Sirscrapntruckalot - Mom jokes...even the Amish have them..

Could be those shiftless Mennonites,, I don't think the Amish are laughing, it's not in their makeup, not allowed to think that way, but I can't help but think, in a sermon, the preacher, who is THE most important person in their community, is saying" See? We told you your life of sin would catch up to you", and by golly, they may be right after all .

I actually scrolled down to type this exact thing.

I’ll tell ya something else, I just paid an Amish contractor to put a steel roof on my house. He came out in the freezing cold and did the job in a few hours, and it looks amazing. I had called every other roofer in the area and no one else wanted to work in the cold. Most wouldn’t even answer the phone.

Then I got to thinking, if this guy can do two roofs in a day and makes thousands per job, he must be worth millions, and not a worry in the world.

The Royal Farms in Hartly,DE. I stayed there one weekend waiting to go into Dover. Its a truck stop with horse n buggy parking. On a Saturday night there, they had like 4-5 horse n buggies tied up on the wooden thing(IDK what to call it) and they were out there almost all night playing music and loud...these were young Amish adults or kids.

We have an Amish colony a couple of miles away from my farm, they're great folks and very helpful when I need help around here. They aren't talking about the price of fuel or the fact that fertilizer has gone through the roof and they're obvious to the coming food shortages that are starting to make the news. They have mentioned the rising prices at Walmart but that is just causing them to make more stuff at home instead of buying it out. They really don't need us in order to survive and even thrive. They live very simply and are happy doing so.
