Are you surprised? Those tracks are so sneaky.
joseph1135, Vilhiem and 201 Thank this. -
It's easy to tell if it's safe though. If you see tracks then you know a train has already been through.
On a serious note. No cure for stupid I suppose...Rockin&Rollin and jammer910Z Thank this. -

At least it was a box...trains cut through those pretty easily. I still remember the one not too far from there in Bourbonnais...steel hauler got hit & sheared the trailer kingpin. Tractor drove away like nothing happened (minus his trailer, of course) while the train derailed, killed 11 and injured 122 people on board. That's the ONLY truck vs. train wreck I've ever heard of where the train lost. In other words, odds aren't in your favor if you're thinking about picking a fight with one...
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
David vs Goliath just doesn't cut it here...
And I gotta hand it to that steel hauler...I wonder what he told the shipper or his boss. "Well, it WAS there when I left! Shucks..ain't got a clue how that train went 'n run off them tracks. I was off getting me some whooty between stops!"Last edited: Jun 5, 2015

Don't know if this is true or not, but someone posted on the news article that the truck had stalled on the tracks.
Vilhiem Thanks this. -
Even if he stalled out at the tracks, who's fault is it? -
-
If there is a stop light/stop sign in the vicinity, it wouldn't surprise me if it came out that he had stopped on the tracks. Everybody knows you aren't supposed to do that, but a large number of people (big trucks and cars alike) do it anyway...see it every day.
