    Hello friends!

My first post here and I'm looking for some sage advice.
I'm not a trucker but have always loved the romantic image of being on the road...yadda, yadda, yadda, you've heard it all.
Thing is I have a good career now being a public school teacher pulling in around $65k, and I don't plan on leaving.

    Here is my interest:
With 10 weeks off every summer, I tend to get bored. I was wondering of the possibilities of being on the road for about a month each year running cross-country. Is it possible for a company to take me on with training and put me on the road with these short intervals or will they (or you) just laugh at me?

Thanks so much for any wisdom you can impart,

    -David

Ten weeks would exceed many newbies' careers. You may hear a number of no's, but I'm sure you'll find a yes -- especially with clean driving & criminal records and all endorsements.

Try the household moving companies. Maybe you can be a helper.

    NAVL
    Bekins - bekinsA1jobs
    United Van Lines
    Wheaton World Wide
    Allied Van Lines
    Mayflower Transit
    Atlas Van Lines
    Graebel Van Lines
    Global Van Lines

    Try this company :

Panther Expedite (click on careers & then on fleet drivers)

Go to CDL school during your summer vacation. Drive on weekends & holidays during the school year to avoid retraining school every summer.

My nephew & brother-in-law drove for a private contractor, for the post office on weekends hauling bulk mail.

So sad but so so true.
Seriously most will want you to retrain after 6 month of no road time.

It's meant as sarcasm as many wash out fairly quickly.

I was always told teachers don't make decent money? 65k, and you get 10 weeks off to get a part time job...

After 1 year, 99% of new drivers have quit trucking. Your first 3 months are the worst with essentially minimum wages, little respect/trust given to you, and things undoubtedly happening at home while you're thousands of miles away.

    silenteagle and TRKRSHONEY Thank this.

Like I said, boredom. I will retire in 10 years but won't retire from working. Thinking of a career change and wondering about getting into the field beforehand.
