Changed one on a 3406e and it was at 2900+ from patten cat in IN. And that was with out a core charge.

Hey BHW, I didn't notice the balancer (fluid damper?) being changed (on the laundry list of components). May want to find out about that; I have been reading a bunch of articles by the owner of Pittsburgh Power, and he mentions that they tend to stop being effective around 500-700k. If that is the case, the truck will buzz more and may start shaking some parts off- or some parts may flat out fail. Just FYI, don't get worried that the motor will go KABLAM instantly!

My former 96 with a CAT had the rubber bushing in the middle of the two metal pieces. When it went there was a lot of noise and vibration but I couldn't find the cause for it until it separated the two metal pieces.

Ok, the newer ones are a silicone-filled drum, and over time the silicone hardens up and stops absorbing the vibration.

OLD POST, I know this! But, it pays to read!! My 2000 Pete with c-15 is PUKING coolant, after every trip (1000-2000 miles) I'd add 2-3 gallons, crank er up, she'd let 1/2-1 gallon go right then/there! Out the overflow tube onto the ground. I'm told to keep adding until we can get it "looked at" by PENSKE service, with a local mobile shadetree as 2nd opinion( w/o looking at it he claims under 10K fixed w/inframe). This has been going on for @5 weeks now, should be in shop in 2 more. Will it last? IDK? 803,500+ on motor with no engine work done ever b4. Idling a lil bit rougher, exhaust note somewhat different, mileage down .2-.5.

Good luck. Hope you don't have to do what we did. And IDK about the 10K. Ours was almost double that, but we replaced all hoses, lines, did a complete rebuild, while we were in there. Figured it was worth it, then we knew what we had.

Difference is you own your rig, I drive company. But it's not a fleet. In my location of this division I am the sole OTR driver. There are NO backup trucks available, so I am really PUSHING them to replace the truck with something newer, b4 my current rig blows!! Like I told my boss, yes mobile shadetree (<--CHEAP)can inframe for less than PENSKE(<--NOT SO CHEAP), but does he warranty? Will he set me up in a rental until he re-fixes it? Pay for towing? I live in Northern Alabama, and the majority of my loads go to the upper mid-west and NE. Long way to be from home when it goes KA-BLOOEY!! Also, the truck has other issues not related to the current problem that need fixed b4 something goes horribly wrong. Is it worth it in the long run, considering the age+mileage of the truck, value (#$20K) in good running condition, and the miles per week 2-3K, to inframe and repair the rest of the issues? IMO, too much to spend in comparison to replace and get some warranty and reliability.
