Man nn... My planner just left the company .. :biggrin_25516:. He is one of the best planners I had. Other than the girl before him. It looks like we lost our back haul planner too and one of our LTL planner's. I can't say for sure but that's what it looks like. Sometimes you just have to wonder..what the hell is going on!!!

I was wrong. We still have our backhaul planner. I think he's taking the place of my previous planner plus our driver manger is filling in. So we just lost 1 planner our LTL girl is still there too. Whew.. I was really beginning to wonder..o_O

Well a couple weeks in as an o/o and I feel like I’m a rookie again, lol. A hell of a lot to learn hauling different types of trailers, from hoppers to tankers. Having to slide the 5th wheel to make sure I’m legal on weights, which I never had to do with dry van loads. When your 5th wheel hasn’t been slid in a while it’s always fun trying to get it to move and lock back in, lol. Either way it’s nerve racking running Power only loads, not knowing what kind of shape your next trailer is going to be in. I did have to turn one load down, a reefer in pretty bad shape.

Freight rates are in the sh!tter for sure. Most of my loads are right around $2 a mile, which isn’t that great. Sure I’m making 3-4x what I was making at APNW, but I won’t know if it was worth it until I see how much maintenance/repairs cost over time.

Definately sounds like a challenge running power only with that much variety of trailers.

Bless you son for being up to that challenge. Your a better man than myself to do so.

Best of luck to you & hope everything works out well for you.

Well luckily I have some experienced drivers on speed dial to ask about these types of situations, LOL. I’m not going to lie, that 7000 gallon tanker was only filled 4500 gallons with a gross weight of 79,400, and it was pushing me back and forth all over the road! Got a whole new level of respect for tanker haulers for sure

I don't really know how to say this! But it's been kind of a s*** show lately on this adventure. Especially since my most recent planner decided to leave the company. :biggrin_25521:

I understand we have to do back hauls But usually we take a furniture load out of the DC at the beginning of the week and then pick up a backhaul coming back and then grab another furniture load etc.. It slows you down little bit, because, in the past, we would get deadheaded back.. turn and burn! You get more miles but less drop pay. However, the backhauls usually deliver in LA and it consumes a lot of time.

Lately tho,.. I've been getting a back haul out of LA to deliver in Stockton/Sacramento area as the first load of the week.

That really effs up my week.. It consumes almost 2 days getting that done.

Or the other thing is they want you to go out and spend your 34 on the road. I'm kind of used to being home weekly I didn't come here to do 34s on the road. Yes occasionally I was good with it. But I think they're trying to shift to doing it all the time.

The guy in charge when I was doing the APNW pilot adventure said they were going to be leaning more towards 2 weeks out two days home. I don't know if that is what they are trying to do now or not It's kind of wishy-washy.

We will see what happens. :biggrin_25515:
Keep the greasy side down! Keep on trucking!

Sorry to hear that bro! I still talk to my buddy regularly who drives for ADS (we both started out at APNW 3/24) and he seems to be happy with how things are running. He’s running the west coast but only mentions backhauls coming from the northwest back down to Cali. Paper rolls, primarily I think. I don’t miss waiting for those heavy loads, lol. Just hang in there, you know how quickly things can change…

I’ve been having a great experience so far out on “my own.” I say that because yes I’m an O/O but I’m not booking my own loads…leasing on with a small company (7 trucks) has let me ease into things. The first month I guess my dispatch was kind of testing me, seeing what I could handle. This second month has been awesome! I’ve been running stage equipment for a company that we have a long standing relationship with - and it’s been a blast! I was in Vegas for two weeks doing setup and tear down of a huge music festival at the speedway, then ran equipment for a couple shows in Denver. Learned a heck of a lot about running flatbeds, step decks and load securement. Oh and the pay has been excellent…this week I’ll be taking home 4x what my top pay was at APNW. On average so far I’m making ab
