The thing is that in a lot of large companies like that, with a large pool of new drivers, issues like this are commonplace.
Companies so large and bloated like that have communication problems. I don't think they mean to dispatch so poorly but it happens.
It is in their best interest to keep trucks rolling more than 500 miles per week...so don't think that it's any kind of punishment to you.
However, they have drivers that are unreliable and frankly just won't end up cutting it in this industry, and they know that.
They are looking for drivers willing to run and can get their on time and doing the run without throwing a fit when something unexpected happens.
Letting them know that you're willing and able, and have a good track record, they will keep you running. Sending the professionally written email like you did is the best thing you could have done.
Keep at it, it won't be long before you can make more than 27cpm.
Keep your safety record clean, keep your attitude positive, and you will get the that point where you're making 40cpm +. And very soon. -
They are required to pay you for "lay-over". Be sure and send them the expense authorization via qual-comm snd then make sure you get a reply by qual-comm and not over the telephone.
Then, call one of those Big Truck ads in the slick books found on the shelf at petro....companies are hiring like mad right now! -
Dispatch, "Got time to get to terminal, hook and run to railyard for a drop?"
Me, "No."
Dispatch, "OK, Head home."
