Better signing (still no excuse for running over ppl's yards---back it out!) and truck routes looping communities help alleviate this problem. The 'bolting thru lights' thing is generally traffic lights that have 1 sec yellow light timed for 4-whlr traffic and NOT long, heavy trucks!:biggrin_25512:

I need to go out there so I can actually see a truck DART across the road.

The article leads me to believe there may not be a light and the trucks pull out and the cars may have to slow down some.

Good point. I've never seen a truck have the ability to dart. Not even bobtailing. I never saw and occasion where my husband ever tried to dart. Sounds like they built the Pilot, but didn't allow for the type of traffic the Pilot caters to.

Twp SOLICITOR (meaning LAWYER) puts the responsibility on residents to enforce laws against Hit-N-Run (leaving the scene of a property damage accident).

Sounds like the Kent County (MI) Prosecutor

Yes, this means a highly paid Government employee who will probably never leave the marks on the place they sit down, will look over documents over a five year period to make a determination as to a potential traffic problem.

How many times have we seen this?

    1. I - 76 NE of Denver, CO - Tomahawk Truck stop - State Engineer planned a Traffic Circle on the Exit Entrance to this Truck stop and trucks could not get around the Circle so they had to drive across the circle. This Engineer had never been to this exit to see what was needed.

They are allowed so many traffic circles in their budget so they figured that would be a good place to put one. :biggrin_25517:

    2. I - 84 & State Rt 75 - Idaho Twin Falls/Sun Valley. Accidents every day because 4 wheelers would not let other off he ramp onto the highway. Traffic was too fast and to heavy.

State Police there every day covering accidents yet it took Some High Paid Engineer in Boise five years to make a determination as to a potential safety problem.

And the list can go on and on about this kind of problem with Government and no Common Sense.

Sad state of affairs when Government has so much control and yet is so inept.

A College degree is only a piece of paper and does not relate Intelligence or amount of Common Sense. But it is nice to hang and the wall for memories sake while it takes 30 years to pay off the education.:biggrin_25526: And in some cases, "How many lives" and "at What Expense?"

Don't blame truckers when Government does not manage! Fining Truckers is not the solution, but is usually the method of correcting problems that never get corrected. Perhaps someone might send the local government there my comment.

    Drivers today:

We all know that driving schools are basically a waste of time and money because the real education does not start until you get behind the wheel and hit the pavement. However, even then training is not what it should be because driver trainers are not qualified to drive themselves.

Years ago, when IdaCal was being purchased by May, the driving world was changing fast. The New CDL and driver training programs fell into the Safety world of Federal and State-good or bad, who really knows all the answers, but:

I had unloaded in Atlanta and backed to the dock door at Stone Mountain for a load of Soap to Chicago. The next morning I awoke by the forklift hitting the back of my trailer with the first pallet of the load. I got out of bed, got dressed; went inside to wash my face and take care of nature and then went out to pull away from the dock and seal my doors.

Just then the driver that was supposed to be there and loaded before me pulled into the yard. He approached me and asked if I would help him with his log book.

I took about 45 minutes with this guy to show him how to do what he should have already been taught; got him all squared away and gave him directions within Chicago to the warehouse, but I did not route him.

It was Friday morning and I had the week end to spend with relatives in Circle City, so I arrived at the warehouse at 11pm Sunday, in Chicago. Since they were not busy, they told me to back in and they would unload me.

The next morning, I got up and saw this driver pulling in late. I asked him, where had he been. He said he thought it looked closer on the map, going up through Ohio; duh! Then he thanked me for getting his log book straight because he ran the portable scale that had been set up just north of Atlanta and they came and got him; took him back for inspection and wrote him a fine for running by passing their scale. His fine would have been much higher if he had shown them a log book as bad as when I first go my hands on it.

Yes, we all probably have many stories, but it just relates to the fact there is no training and therefore, drivers don't have a clue as to responsibility. Then again, Government has not shown any great amount of intelligence solving problem areas either. So who's to blame?:biggrin_2554:

Just another way to solve the problem without solving the problem.

    Typical Government.

Where has all our Tax money gone? Long time passing.
Where has all our Tax money gone? Long time ago.

    When will we ever learn;

It never ceases to amaze me how they will build a truck stop and then build a residential district followed by a shopping center, and then complain about truck traffic. Spokane is in that process right now with a new truck stop on the west side (Petro) and a new housing development with a planned shopping center across the street. By the way there are other truck businesses at the same exit to include TWT/Systems.

Community Master Planning anyone? All it takes is a College Degree. No real Ambition or common sense needed as it is government money paid by you and I tax payer.

The only trucks I see Dart say Dart on them, but there not Swift!

If the community planners are old enough, or got in there through the good ol boy system, you don't even need a degree. Common sense is no longer common. lol
