Just got the news that our barn is moving to annual bids. We used to bid twice a year. I see the pros and cons of it, but I wish we would've stayed bi-annual. Now drivers will have to run some of those winter mountain roads if they wanna keep the same run for the summer!

Bid runs for us is once a year. Senior drivers tend to take all the day work while junior drivers work at night. Everybody pretty much stay's the same except when there's drivers who wind up retiring and they're runs go up for bid.
Only bid runs that we have that is permanent is the Letter Carriers. Once they bid on a run, it's there's until they retire. Same goes UPS package delivery drivers. They can have the same run for 35 years if they want it. -
Where I am your bid is permanent unless you want a run a junior has. Not seen one I would want. I have had my run 22 years, there's guys chomping at the bit for my run but that's how driver retention works.

I work food service and we bid twice a year and we can either bid shuttles (linehaul) or routes and our seniority dove tails for both

Seniority bumps can be used any time you have one to bump a less senior man off his slot. He then gets a bump to do rhe same, if he can. Always good to complain about what a PITA your run is when you're a junior man.
LoneCowboy and Bob Dobalina Thank this.
