It’s not that people act like they’ve never messed up before, heck I flopped a load cattle when I was 21, but there’s not really any excuse for stuff like this either. This appears to be someone lacking awareness of what can and can’t be done with the size of vehicle they’re driving.
Another cdl driver does a u turn resulting in a fatality

don't tell anyone, but.... I've done u-turns plenty of times over the yrs and never came close to having an accident.
it's no the u-turn, it's when and where it's done -
Here you go
The truck driver even after 1 day of driving should clearly be aware people don't pay attention, people do stupid Things!
With this said any driver that commits to a u turn with something moving towards them in sight unless they have the clearly known cooperation from other drivers such as when an other truck driver gives clear signal that they are yielding right away to you, they are asking for trouble. -
the problem is, can any of us truckers, retired or still working, actually "see" what the investigators are/will be seeing?
i think not.
someone said several posts back, she should have left skid marks? the road was wet, skid marks may not show up. don't forget too, many if not all vehicles nowadays have ABS braking, so skidding may not even happen. and if it does, it'll look like a "zipper line", not all solid.
in the end, i am of the belief that trucker will be castrated and tossed aside. i think his company will get a nuclear verdict against them.
as for the Publix crash, as mentioned, he could have gone just a wee bit further and make a turn more safely.
you drivers that are still working will suffer the consequences of the actions of those morons. not ever us retired guys/gals.
what some here need to understand too, is that many of us are as sick and tired of all the BS, even in retirement. we have ALL SEEN morons, doing moronic things, and "get away with it" time and time again.
many of you do not like, want or will work for companies with cameras...
well, ladies and gentlemen, and kids of all ages........you're gonna git that camera soon enough, even you o/o's, cuz in due time, ALL insurance companies will demand it, or you're gonna be SOL for insurance.
and the way "i see it"?
if there is any sort of legislation proposed by ANY politician of ANY party wanting more and more trucking regulations..??
i'm voting for it.
cuz enough is enough of this crap........no one "has the time" to do anything, but "talks the talk" at the truckstop lunch counter, or on the CB radio, about "what should be done"......then walks away, spouting off...."i ain't got no time to do anything, they'll do something"......
and i as a voter, WILL do something.gekko1323 and Old_n_gray Thank this. -
Pretty much it’s all about using common sense, and paying attention to surroundings, and make sure there’s nothing around… Too many people had their head up there behind anymore
-
as well as WAY TOO MANY depend solely on that dang GPS.....
-
Years ago when I trained, I would have students that would literally not have any idea what is going on around them going down the highway I would periodically throw out a question what that sign say back there and they would sit there and tell me what sign… Literally, nobody is paying attention to anything around them And folks wonder why there’s so many accidents…
201, gekko1323, Numb and 1 other person Thank this. -
There is no common sense anymore.OLDSKOOLERnWV, 201, gekko1323 and 4 others Thank this.
-
Seems logical, probably was distracted also.gekko1323 Thanks this.

Yes...I don't disagree. Both sides lacked awareness. I certainly wouldn't have tried that U-turn, buy I'm not gonna absolve the 4-wheeler either
