Whoever did this is in deep **** when the Massachusetts State Police and the state EPA finds them. It seems a tanker yanker leaked a load of HEATING OIL all over the ground at the westbound Westborough Service Area on the Mass Pike. Naturally it required a hazmat response for cleanup-the equipment needed included a dumpster and a backhoe to scoop up the contaminated soil. Needless to say MassDOT,the Staties and the EPA are pissed(they’ve gone ape**** over the matter)and they’re checking surveillance cameras to see who’s responsible, because the perpetrator didn’t report it. The cleanup involved means only half of the truck parking spots are available-according to the MassDOT foreman, they’ve been at it since 11:00 am this morning-and it’s 4:00 pm now-and they’re nowhere near finishing. When I saw this at first I thought they were expanding the truck parking area. Sadly, that isn’t the case.

Whoever did this deserves the “Singapore Style” treatment-1 lash for each gallon spilled!
This is a big deal because the lion’s share of the homes around this neck of the woods use underground aquifers for their primary drinking water supply. If the heating oil leaches into that water supply then it’s contaminated!

At this point I think we’re way beyond tickets and fines….

That sucks. I would have given him a safe place to disperse his load. :D

I know right?!?! I could put 4,000 gallons of gasoline to good use in my Fiat and my Sentra-wouldn’t have to pay for fuel for at least a couple of years!!lol

First I doubt it was a load of fuel oil……. A load of fuel oil in mass is 10,000 gals even the wimps haul 9500…..They’d be digging up the whole rest area for that amount

Second was is done while making a delivery? Near vents or tank fills……?

Third maybe it was a door slammer who’s truck was leaking fuel or returning to much fuel and over filled a tank.. you’d be surprised what 80-100 gallons looks like on the ground………

4th no excuse for leaving the scene , no matter who it was……

They were digging up the back area(including cutting down some trees because of the contaminated soil). According to MassDOT this wasn’t done during a delivery-and the fuel oil dump isn’t even located in that section of the service area-it’s next to the fuel pumps!!
And the absorption material used to clean the mess was covering WAY MORE than 80-100 gallons-especially if they’re using backhoes and Bobcat front end loaders to clean up the mess!!

Aww man, you're right! The authorities are going to be pissed!!! Luckily they didn't have to close the service lot down, or did they?

What the hell? I'd say that's the ultimate in laziness, but it took more work to shorten the route than it did just to run it!!!
