I wouldn't try dictating terms. If you're going to quit over it bring it up with your boss first though. He might have trouble filling seats but it also has a problem attracting and retaining customers. He may have had to shift your home time to keep a customer. It's the nature of the job.

we dont have "home time" home time is every night. the issue is waiting at a particular farm on an almost regular basis without additional pay. then i have to pay additional babysitter time and im not getting money added to my check to cover it. for me, its loose loose when i sit for 2 hours and make the same money.

then ask NICELY for hourly pay for detention. you are there ON TIME, the load should always be ready, waiting for you, not you waiting on the load. you said its dairy farms, so something is wrong on thier end, not yours. or maybe ask your boss to do your route differently so that in this case, no more waiting on your part.

otherwise, this IS trucking, it is what it is.

then when he goes to another employer, and has to wait for no detention time, what does he do then, leave again?

my best guess he is new generation trucker thinking all is going to go his way.

what he would have done back in my day, i don;t know, maybe up and quit and go back to a 9 to 5 job.

I had 3 jobs in last 4 months. No big deal.
Sorry to say that sir. but drivers like you are the reason employers think they can get away with this crap.
1st time load not ready ,OK an accident, 2nd time not ready ,boss gets the call that I need to get paid for waiting, 3rd time not ready and I didn't get paid,"ok Will be back tomorrow. Have a nice day".

That is incorrect. I have always made my own deal in any job I’ve had.
My time is for sale, not my soul.

making a deal at hire time is way different that dictating after you got the job as in the case of the o/p.

dictating what you will or will not do, i'd never hire you. you as a potential employee treat the job interview as a window to yourself. if it is a dark window, seek employment elsewhere's.

good luck dictation to a potential boss what you will or will not do.

you must be diplomatic, not forceful as a job seeker.

Dictate what’s up to your employer and show him who’s boss. You are.

Aamcotrans, DTP and buddyd157 Thank this.
