Went to the employment office to try to get into the WIA program. They said they will not fund CDL school unless you have a letter on company letterhead offering you a job. I applied to TMC, W/S Conway truckload.
12-27TMC said flat out that they won't hire me.
12-28 Conway called, but I was outside clearing ice, before I could call back Sandy called. told me about the position which I would be concidered for and went through the entire list of approved schools in NC. Told her about WIA and their requirement, she e-mailed me the letter about 5 minutes later.
yesterday 12-29 the wife and I went to visit all the schools that are approved by both W/S and the WIA program. I have decided to go with cross country in Lexington, NC. (the recruiter there said he drove for W/S before coming to the school)
The WIA counsolor has a copy of the letter, waiting on wheather or not they are going to pay, and when.
The school was a lot cheaper than I thought, so the wife and I have decided if they WIA or VA doesn't come through by middle of Jan, we are just going to finance it, so hopefully I will be in Conover by March
another going to W/S

I am also shooting for a March start with W/S. I am going through the WIA process in Cali, it has taken me over 2 months. I am in the final stages according to the case worker and will hopefully have the funding by the end of next week. I should be going to orientation in Missoula. Good luck.

I don't work for them, but I have been following all these guys for the past few months and everyone has had nothing but good to report! I would definitely recommend them. The only thing I would consider is your confidence in your driving skills. The only downfall is that they do not send you out with a trainer so this would be something to take into consideration. Like A.T. said they do not hold your hand so you must know how to hustle! Good luck to you and welcome to the forum!

Thanks, can't wait to get started
I'll be OTR stick hauler. I know what a stick hauler is, but it shocked me to hear that term, haven't heard that since I was a kid riding in a stick wagon.
I have heard that the furniture guys are more reagonal, so will I stak kind of reagonal, or all over 48 whenever -
since you will be out of conover like me, you will be hired to haul furniture like I was, if you ask Tim for a red truck you can go anywhere but you will do allot of out and back from conover
If you ask for a White Penski Truck you will only run east of the Mississippi and still do allot of out and back AND you will get home allot more often.
I asked for a red truck because I wanted to see the Whole Country...

Finaly got an appointment with the WIA counsolor, now it looks like mother nature is going to cancel the appointment. The appoint is for Tuesday at 9, they are calling for snow monday night followed by ice so I'm sure state offices will be closed Tuesday.
