i bought a 1575(3000 surge) cobra inverter and fitted it to my truck but while it will run the chargers and little cooler and stuff it wont run my 900w microwave, the inverter shuts off and i need to restart it...

i started to think i should have got a larger one but heres the thing...the cables i am using are the largest size that my inverter will hold and it is really as close to the batteries as practical...

but what really is confusing me is that my buddy has the EXACT same inverter bought on the same day..and i tried my microwave in his truck and it works fine, which leads me to think it may be something to do with my truck or setup and not the actual inverter...

does anybody know of any issues like this or would it be anything to do with lack of amperage from the batteries as my truck isnt the best at holding a charge when running appliances with the engine off..(but it is doing this with the engine running)

What else do you have running at the same time? We have to shut our microwave down sometimes in the middle and restart if we are running other items.

Also, you have an older truck, so that could be part of the issue. Your buddy's truck may not be running as many items (wattage) at the same time. Have your batteries checked; new batteries will sometimes help this issue.

Or call Joe and make him troubleshoot it... but he's going to bed soon. :biggrin_25518:

I would assume that if the truck will start, the batteries aren't an issue. check your wiring setup (compare to your buddies wiring if possible) and especially your ground from the inverter. Cobra is a good name, they don't make lemons. It will more than likely be a wiring issue when it come to pulling a heavier load.

Hope this helps, if you have anymore questions feel free to ask. I'll try and help the best i can.

I have XM.....I'm not using the "puck" that comes with the unit, bought the antenna that looks like a potato masher and mounted it to my mirror bracket on an 05 Columbia. If that isn't an option for you I've seen then mounted on the visor and have also seen it mounted on the side air deflector up high.

We have Sirius and do it the same way as Axe. The good thing about that method is that we can turn the antenna down out of the way when I (never Joe) have to drive under low trees. :biggrin_25526:

Remove the inverter and put it on your buddys rig then run the microwave.

She's thinking of the CB antenna :p but we do have the small vertical antenna mounted to the side mirror bar and it works great. The 'puck' I used to use worked well until you were in OR & WA facing the wrong direction, then the signal got partially blocked.

Also, as for the inverter, depending on the other 'little' things you have running, it could be pulling more than the 1500 watts that it is designed for. If it's not too late I might suggest returning it and getting a 2000W or 2500W inverter. Our 2000W inverter works well with the microwave, Refer, TV, PS3, 2 computers, and 2 phone chargers... all running at the same time.

    the flying scotsman Thanks this.
