If you tell new company your info. Unless you specifically say DO NOT CONTACT my current company. You can pretty much count on them calling your current company.
This is no big deal happens 2 dozens times a day. You may have wasted a good opportunity. When your boss asks why you looked around. You should be honest low pay, not getting home time, dispatcher is a dick, etc... Unless your a bad driver (late loads, accidents, always complaining) your com9any does not want to lose you. If it is something that can be fixed, that's when it could/would be addressed.
Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Unless it's already been greased enough times it's better to replace.UsualSuspect, Rideandrepair, FoolsErrand and 5 others Thank this. -
New company is doing their due diligence and checking references and history like they are required too by law if I’m not mistaken ..
UsualSuspect, Rideandrepair, 51.50 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Company I work for wants to see W-2 if you checked do not contact current company.
Rideandrepair and TequilaSunrise Thank this. -
start a job and STAY THERE, for a while. you pretty much have sent a signal to your current employer you have no interest in working there.
you could be sent to an area now, where you might be sitting for a long time, before they find you a load.Rideandrepair and Hazmat Cat Thank this. -

once something like this happens, it's only a matter of time.
happened to me, just not like you. i applied for another job. they called my employer the now defunct NEMF.
the gal in the office actually went from her desk to the TM's desk, at the top of her lungs, saying, "i just got a call for a reference for Buddyd"
everyone in the whole darned office knew my intentions. later that night (as i worked nights at line haul, the TM did not leave, at 5 PM, he waited for me to arrive at my time of 8 PM..
called me into his office, asked me why i was looking, all i could say was i was putting out feelers after like 5 years being there.
every night after that, when i got to my destination? i'd have to wait till like the LAST loads going back, and oh yeah..i was #3 on the seniority list..always given some crap like the load i was to take was high value and they didn't want the underlings to handle them.
NEMF had nothing BUT cheap loads, nuffin was ever high value.
i complained to the union, that crap stopped but it took about a week.
then i up and left for much greener pastures, and NEVER gave my 2 week notice, i figure that phone call that gal got, was the start of my 2 weeks notice.
never looked back, never went back, and had a MUCH BETTER job, less stress than working there at NEMF..and how did they end up over me..??
they CLOSED...!!!!
and i was still working...now retired.Brettj3876, Rideandrepair, LTL Bull and 4 others Thank this. -
Don't over think this, and yes ,you should have checked the "do not contact current employer" box.
Next time. Might be nothing, but even paranoids have enemies.
That being said, I was at a place for 18 years, thought it was the best thing ever, and they up and closed.
Best thing that ever happened to me,better job, more pay, less stress, love it.
Ride this out, and be the driver they would want to keep. -
Thats one reason I dont tell anyone a #### thing and that little box got checked, do not contact current employer.
My last trucking job involved returning the 18 wheeler to Little Rock and for 5 hours on I40 I arranged orientation and the finer details over cell. That was the thursday prior to the following monday going there. Parked the truck and went home.
That company which I quit pretty much didnt have a clue. Although I had a very specific reason for leaving. No loss.
In trucking if your employer got any word anywhere, even if it is a birdie outside that you are fixing to get out before you got out you are finished. -
Wow IMHO some of you guys worked for #### companies. Or maybe that's just freight vs household. In hhg if they hey a reference call, all of a sudden you are so busy. You dont uave tine to think about a new job. At least for the next month or two. *Unless like I said, your dead weight and they dont care and would actually prefer if you left*
PacoTaco Thanks this.
