I was told by an old trucker that when you come home to your terminal you can drop your trailer and bobtail home and not have to log any of the bobtail time as long as you went strait home and came back to the same terminal monday morning or whenever. I however can not find this in the reg book. Someone know if this is true and where its at in the book if it is?

Much has been written about this.
Do a search for logbooks and you will see many posts that you can read. -
You won't find it in the book but it was answered if FMCSA guidance questions and answered in this thread . http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...6084-using-truck-for-personal-conveyance.html

Scroll down to question 26...as long as you're BT and going to/from your home/terminal, or if you drop your trailer atthe truck stop and want to go to a sit down restaurant or Wally World, you can show it as off duty. -
Just be carefull the book isn't very clear on how far can a driver go on personal use etc. So if you are running over hours pretty heavy and someone gets hurt or killed I feel (and even a dot officer said the same thing as me) the jury might see it the way I do.
Just be carefull. I don't like this question because Im to tired to explain why

Good point . Just because you are not violating HOS doesn't mean you couldn't be judged negligent if driving when fatigued . The fact the driver was off duty and relieved of responsibility might take some of the liability off the carrier but that is also questionable .

I Know of a driver in a Cali prison that did this. He dropped his trailer at the yard and was on his way home. A car load of drunk teenagers ran a red lite and he t-boned them. Killed 3 of them. He was over on his driving time for that day and was sent to prison for man slater. State said he should have slept there and then gone home or had his wife come get him.

What does your company ask you to do, do they want you to log it. We don't but it's our truck.

That's true . Just because you log off duty doesn't mean you aren't negligent if you have an accident because you are too tired to be driving . He was not in violation of HOS but the courts got him an anyway . That's like the WalMart driver that was in the wreck that resulted in the foundation of PATT . His log book was legal . He just had been up all day before coming in to run at night .
