When one starts with a new company how is the log to be started legally.

I ask this because I hope to be starting soon with a new company, and the last one had me log 0 hours for the previous 7 days.

And one has to account for the previous 7 days, was this correct? Or a link to explain this

    Thanx Cerebus :smt023

So when I get the Log Book I just zero the first page and then put the available hours, then start my logs on the 2nd page? Or do I have to use 7 pages with line through 1. OFF DUTY?

Have you worked anywhere prior to the new job? If not then the new company should have a paper for you to fill out showing the last 7 days hours. Or will have you fill out 7 prior days logs. If you have worked the previous 7 days then just carry your old log book with you to show proof..and of course start a new log book.

Keep in mind that your log needs to be legal. If you were employed and performed work for money during the previous week that needs to be included in your log and the 70 hour calculation.

If you were on vacation then drawing a straight line through off duty on one page and marking "vacation October 16 through 22" would be sufficient.

If you were employed by another motor carrier and have a logbook from there that includes the past 7 days you need to carry those log pages until they expire.

Every company I've ever worked for has had me fill out a form that states the last date and time I was relieved of duty. On that form there is also a small grid where you fill in the dates of the previous seven days as well as the hours worked during those days. This form takes the place of any other log book, if you worked for another motor carrier during those previous seven days. If you did not work for a motor carrier, but perhaps Joe's Roofing Company, you would still be required to include those hours in that same grid along with the dates. This form will then by signed by not only you, but the safety coordinator as well, usually who ever is leading the orientation.
