I doubt I'm going to be able to post anything new that has not been posted in the last few days, but I'll give a readers digest version of my experience here.
I checked in around 10:30 yesterday morning. It's good to check in early as possible. They gave me the famous orange packet and it took me a little while to get it all filled out. Putting everything that you have told the recruiter in paper form. After that I had free time until 4:00 pm when it was time to get in the simulator. We was there until 8:00 last night. It was fun and nerve racking all at the same time. But after a few maps, I started to get the shifting down a little .
Today we start out in the orinitation room then physicals. So time for breakfast. Will report later.

Tue: official day 1. Been a pretty full day. Went from orientation at 7:00 am, to go do the wizz quiz. Then across the hall to do half of the DOT physical eyes and hearing test and lifting test. By the time we got through all of that it was lunch time. There is about 45 in our class so the lines are long and slow. After lunch we was to be outside the doc's office for the turn your head and cough portion of the physical. We all get there and a nurse checks our paperwork to make sure it's all right. The doc shows up a hour late. But he had 2 rooms where the students was getting physicals done next to each other. It was more like a pair of changinging rooms at Walmart. The doc would fly out of 1 and into another. I think it took us longer to get dressed that the physical lasted. Turn your head and cough, reflexes, duck walk ect.
After tat was all done, went to the interview office so they could look at your background paperwork. And ask you any questions that was need on it.
By now it's 3 pm simulator lab/ computer based training ( CBT ) opened up you have to finish your sims and start your CBT's until 8 pm. Some where in there run to the cafe and get dinner.
And the was the conclusion for day 2.Bossdogg12 and californiatruckgirl Thank this. -
It's been a few days since I have posted, but there is long days here. Let's see if I can catch up.
Wed: We spent all morning going over the pre-trip on paper. Then lunch. After that we went out to the parking lot and did the pre-trip in person. Then spend the rest of the eve finishing my CBT's. A word of advice there, get many as you can done, as soon as you can. That way you can breath a little easier as the week goes on. That was my game plan. While a lot of the other students that didn't get to do pre tip because they had to go to DMV to test for there permit. So they are little behind on the sims and CBT'S because they are studying on there permit test.
Thurs: the first half of the day I spent in class covering insurance, sexual harassment, and truck security. The truck security class was interesting. But I watch Big Rig Bounty Hunters. It helped put 2 and 2 together. In the afternoon it was Smith Systems class. Teaching you on how to be a better driver. After that I had the rest of the eve off. I went out to do another pre trip, while the people are playing catchup.
Fri: We had roll call bright and early this morning. With a breakdown of who still had what left to do. And some people must of not did much all week. Because they still had a lot to do. The majority Of us that was cleared went and had our I D badges made then went over to the training pad to do some more pre-trip and straight line backing till lunch. After lunch went got into groups and went to a industrial area so we could practice our shifting. We did that for a few hours and went back to the conference room to get instructor assignments. That was our day on Friday. Some people left right out some like me will have to wait till sun. My instructor went home for the weekend. He will pick me up around noon on sun to do my first del.
My best advice I can give on this first week is get your permit before you get here, and get here by noon on Mon to get a jump on everything. And make sure your background and health is good. On Monday we started with I think 62 and finished with about 28. Health and background was the 2 top things that sent people home. And 1 guy caught drinking in his room. STUPID!!!!!
More to come...critters, hoblog, DesertTraveler and 1 other person Thank this. -
I am driving up so Sunday night I am staying at my dads about 25 miles away. I hope to get there about 9. Can you start everything as soon as you get there or does it start about noon.
