I live in Las Vegas, NV and I got two questions. Would it be better to go to a local trucking school to get a CDL or go join a big company if any hire out of Nevada anyways? I've been looking at three different schools here: Southwest Truck Driving School, American Institute of Technology, and AGS Consultants. Has anyone been to any or have other recommendations?

Hi,
Good luck with your course. Sorry but I do not kn0ow any info on this -
Check the school and make sure they are accredited. Also choose a school that has a minimum 160 hours. Some schools are only 120 hrs and not enough for certain companies. If you can afford to do so go with a private school as opposed to company sponsored training. Then you are free to choose your company and not locked in for a year or more

Look at all your options, weigh cost vs benefit, job placement, whether the private schools are accredited and acceptable by carriers. I went through a school and feel good about what I learned. I learned how to do stuff from a varied assortment of background and wasn't subject to one company's way of doing things. -
Going to an independent school gives you more options when it comes to choosing a company....

The schools I'm looking at are accredited and licensed through the DMV to give their own tests. AGS Consultants is the only one that does one on one training and I did a quick search on the forums and found a little bit of info and I've seen people recommend them because of that. I'm trying to get an appointment set-up with AGS Consultants so I can see what they charge and their payment options. Southwest is like 5500 unless you pay cash up front it's 4000. AIT is just to #### expensive and drawn out. Their like 14000 for like 6 months or 4000 cash only 1 month. I have done some research and AGS Consultants looks like my best choice I just don't know their price yet.

I bet if you guys did some digging you may find a school at a reasonable price that offers a longer course.I think the longer the course trhe better, there is so much you need to know and can't possibly learn much in these 3 week to 5 week courses.Too many students and not enough drive and backing time.

That's why I was thinking about going with AGS because they do one on one training. AIT offers long courses and even help you get hazmat but there so #### expensive.
