I used to stop there often when on a NJ-Fla run. I have stopped quite a few times to see the empty lot in Garysburg. It makes you sick to know that an underground leak would make TA just abandon the truck stop. You will really enjoy the book.

Also how about Rhodes Truck Stop on US 301 in Santee, SC? One of those complete travel centers with restaurant, motel and truck stop all in one. It's also an empty field and rumor was it was a center for illegal activities but not sure.

The TA in Troutville, Va on I-81 was torn down by the state of Va. who bought it to build a new interchange for highways in the area. I'll think of some more and we'll continue.

How about these three in Florida: the old 76 in Haines City (now a Pilot), the 40 Acre in Lakeland (office buildings now), and the Highway 39 in Plant City (a fruit market)?

I've been to all 3 of those regularly. You really have a vault of old stops and I thank you for that.

Glad you're enjoying my list! I only was at the 40 Acre once. Uncle took me to Cornbread Alley for lunch. Some of the best food I ever had but definitely not a fancy place. I'll have to ask him but I don't think the Highway 39 had a restaurant, did they?

If the Hwy 39 is the one I'm thinking about it did. I am trying to remember it when I was on my way to Tampa from Orlando on I -4 westbound you got off the exit, turned right and it was on your left. I think there was a cold storage warehouse across the street and a large motel with 3 rows of buildings with rooms on the other side of the interstate.

After thinking about it I think you are right. It was on the south side of I-4 and Dino World was not far away. I think there also was a Museum of Flight around there too.
The one I was thinking about was a Texaco Truck Stop just past the 39 exit. I also believe there was a 76 Truck Stop at I-4 and Hwy 98 in Lakeland.
I thought of another up north for you. In Bartonsville, Pa. there was a Pure Truck Stop, then it became a 76 and then an independent. It was torn down to make a mall. It was on I-80 just west of the NJ line (Del. Water Gap).

No, you were right the first time. I just brought up the place on Google Maps and it was right across from the Americold Logistics warehouse. And I think it was a Texaco branded place. The fruit market still uses the existing building. It doesn't look big enough to have had a restaurant but it's possible. I've seen some incredibly small cafes.

Bartonsville, huh? I haven't heard of that one. So sad to hear it was bulldozed for yet another shopping mall. It's all about the bottom line these days and what businesses will make the most money, not what matters to hardworking folk like truck drivers.
