Forecast confidence is increasing in a widespread and high impact winter weather event across much of the region this weekend. A strong low pressure system will move into the four corners region over the next 24 to 48 hours...likely intensifying as it lifts northeast into colorado and kansas on friday night and saturday. Snow may begin in the mountains above 8000 feet as early as late friday night or early saturday morning...with snow levels falling to 5000 feet or lower by saturday night.
Winter storm watches have been posted for the mountains as 1 to 2 feet of snow is expected through sunday afternoon. Snowfall amounts in the lower elevations remain uncertain...however reasonable confidence exists that travel will be significantly impacted across much of the area on saturday and sunday. -
