Posted: 2:30 PM- A West Jordan man died Saturday morning in a trucking company accident, police said.
About 10:30 a.m., 21-year-old Peter Koons was helping a driver attaching a semi tractor to a trailer after the tractor was repaired at CR England, 4701 W. South Frontage Road (2100 South) in West Valley City, said West Valley City Police Lt. Bill Merritt.
As the driver backed the trailer into place, Koons somehow got caught between the trailer and the tractor. Other workers could not hear him in the noisy work bay, Merritt said, and Koons was crushed. He died at the scene.

This has nothing to do with the safety department. They can talk till they are blue in the face.
This is an example of people getting careless and not paying attention to where they are. The driver lost sight of the helper. He should have stopped then.
The blame can also be put on the helper. He was standing between the truck and trailer.ssbowles and AfterShock Thank this. -
in the middle of the day also.
-much worse than getting fleased.
A good reminder to all of us though. We work in a dangerous industry.
Why would you get inbetween a truck and a trailer. I am always looking in the mirrors for the line-up. Maybe a mechanic riding in back for the hook-up and didn't notice the 5th's position. -
your right but, there should of been a guide in front of the truck, where the driver could see his hand signals backing him in the tight bay..
-
I have honestly never seen a guide in the front -they are always in the rear where they can be seen in a mirror.
I mostly worry about getting crushed by 2 back to back trailers in the yard when you are looking for an empty. -yard jockey etc. -
I have never had a guide to pull into or out of the shops.
If you can not pull through or back into a garage without help you should not be driving a truck.
I have had to pull into shops, truck washes, etc since I started driving yes the truck washes have people that will guide you into the bay do you think I watch their signals heck no I only watch for when they say to stop you are up far enough.
Who's fault do you think it will be if you hit anything while someone is helping you? Your at fault.
Will the company care if you say well there was a helper that was guiding me that did not stop me before I hit it. Nope they will not care you are the driver you are suppose to be able to drive that truck.
I look at garage doors like I look at fuel islands the garage doors are only not as wide.
Either way you need to get properly lined up for them.
I have backed a trailer into a garage for service that is a little tricky.
If you ever have anyone trying to help quide you just tell them thanks but no thanks I can do it myself. -
WTF is a 21 year old doing helping him back. He couldn't possibly have ANY driving experience.
-
I'm guessing the 21 year old was a apprentice machanic, I bet the driver is really depressed and having mental issues on this
AfterShock Thanks this. -
and well he should. WTF didn't he stop when he lost sight of the guy? I'm just a rank (well, I took a shower this morning) amateur at this driving thing, and even I know better. Heck, just a couple days ago I had to back into the tire shop.. as soon as the mechanic vanished from my mirrors, I stopped until I found him again even though I knew where he was.
In this regard, your rig is just like a gun. If something is not right down range - put it on safe *immediately*AfterShock, MACK E-6 and Donk Thank this. -
