Me,personally, yes, In your situation, would go Schneider Bulk as first choice and Melton as second choice. No I hate local work; some people love it, but some of us hate it and would rather be on the open road.

I drove for Schneider Bulk three years out of DFW. The closest TWIC office is in Houston but it's only like 10 miles from the Schneider yard so it won't be difficult for you to get that, they will provide a company car.

I heard over on the Schneider forum that the new trucks have factory installed inverters so that's a big plus. Course you won't get a new truck at first but still.
I liked Schneider, was a good place to get into tankers.

In my entire tanking career I've never delivered to a military base, TWIC is what you are going to need. Mainly it's for ports and there are ports all over, even the Midwest.

Didn't realize Melton had driver cams, kinda makes the decision to scratch them off the list pretty easy doesn't it?

The TWIC card also lessens the entry fee some ports charge for getting in. I believe it is around $25.00 without the card and about $15.00 with the card. TWIC background checks may go into more depth now also, they were finding out that some TWIC holders had things on their records that some places like Military bases would not let in.

How were guys getting into ports without TWIC? If it's required for entry then usually the only way I've seen people get in is with an escort. I have never heard of being charged for entry. Just curious about this, not doubting you.

Del Monte in Glouster City, NJ is one,
Mobile, AL down at the state docks.

Can't remember off hand some of the other couple of places. It is usually for loads coming in from off docks though that are produce.

And yes, it was most likely by escort, before, but you still had to pay the fee.

Pay a fee to haul freight? The very act which insures they get paid! Ridiculous, stuff like this irritates me!

I went to a port in SC and some obese woman security guard told me I can enter the property early if I donate $10.00 to charity. I asked her if I can get a receipt so the company can reimburse me and she said "no, don't you care about hungry children?" I said "no donation without a receipt", then she waved me on through the gate anyway.
